Ville Valo.I drew this entire picture using a 6B pencil--shaded it and everything, and was dissatisfied with the contrast, so I added charcoal pencil on the dark parts and pastels to the skin tone. I just cannot figure out how pencil artists get the black so black with just pencils!
The title is a line from the HIM song 'Kiss of Dawn.'

I just can't seem to get things black enough with pencils. I also am bothered by the glare of the graphite on the paper. I guess pencils just are not my thing. But I wish you much success with them!

Well if you have like a REALLY soft graphite there won't be a glare

If i do the graphite too dark , it gets shiny and won't scan. Lots of people use black pencil crayon.

Haha.. this one looks familiar. I did the same drawing back in '09 andddd I used graphite at the time. I think you can get some dark value graphite with the higher grades like 7b-9b, but they always give off that sheen of shine that I always hated. If all else fails bust out the charcoal haha..

Thanks, meks...yep, that's what I don't like--that shininess...makes it hard to see what you're drawing and makes it nearly impossible to photograph. I don't have a scanner so I have to photograph my drawings.

Even scanning it is a mess. I use my scanner and it's still a pain so I have to try to touch up the glare on Photoshop.

beautiful babe....your love for him shines thru..i like the texture of this one..nice and soft and smooth...and the kind of paper one uses can help with making the black blacker..some papers soak it in...a nice textured vellum works for me....*blowkiss*

Thanks! Well, I tried applying an 8B over the 6B, but it didn't look too good. I guess I just don't know how to draw with pencils. I need to keep practicing.

Well I think it works with layers like, you fix it and then paint again, but im not sure
