So apparently Andalites are my equivalent of the happy pill. Sooo happymaking, guys. You have no idea.And yeah! Now I have a buncha dumb baby doodles. Experimenting with variations and whatnot. Male and female here... I know it's a popular concept in the fandom but eh, starting to think I'd rather not have such a blatant difference in colour between genders.
Females colour variations in my head-canon do tend to lean a little more to a purple-y blue, but it' not with too huge a difference from the males I think. Plus I'd say Andalite males can probably have a purple-ish colouring too, though it's uncommon.
That's lil!Ax on the bottom there. The others are just random colour tests, stripey variations and whatnot. I figured as kids they'd have less tan on their bodies- that it would spread as they got older. So... yeah.. uh. There's my spiel.

I really like your interpretation of the andalite tail. I never thought of having it go up like that, like a cat or something, but actually it makes a ton of sense (as much sense as andalite tails can make I guess, hurp).

And yeah my logic for the tails is that if they're possibly used for signalling/emoting, raising them high would make sense, as well as take up far less room and with less potential accidents when in a herd situation. Plus it's an easier place to go from resting to attack, though it takes away a bit of power and relies more on speedy, swiping slashes... which seem to be what the books describe anyway, so I'm pretty happy with it haha. Trying to make sense of the aliens in Animorphs is a big hobby of mine XD

I know this is kinda old but d'awww so cute.
I personally agree with keeping more variation of blues and keeping the purple very similar to the blue but I honestly had trouble figuring out which is female! The purples I see here seem more in line for "the rare males who are born a little purple" since they seem blue/indigo... I'd personally make them about 10% more red but that's just me.

Hmm that's a good point. I'm trying to keep a general blueish tone here but yeah maybe just a touch more red would be a good idea. I'll play with it in future colour studies, thanks for the comment XD

xD No problem. It actually made me think of the colour scheme theories myself. I was thinking it might be interesting if infants are born in a relatively middleground tone of blue/purple so that gender isn't easily apparent just by the fur (although with normal variation, males would tend to be a bit more blue, etc) with a tendancy to get closer to cyan/purple depending on gender, with some remaining near the starting hue.

I'm loving your Andalite stuff (sorry for spam-favving them XD). I used to read Animorphs when I was a kid but I never got past book 8... I recently got my hands on the whole serie and I'm having a lot of fun reading the story I loved so much and actually getting to finish it this time. Aaaaaah good ol' nostalgia!

OMG this brings back memories 8'D They're way cuter here than I ever pictures them in the books (but then again on the covers the characters always looked different from cover to cover, and always different to how I pictured them XD)! I love their poses!
