Palaeoloxodon namadicus, un proboscídeo del Pleistoceno tardío asiático conocido de restos algo escasos y fragmentarios, cuyas estimaciones generales rondan los 4,5 metros de altura, pero cuyo mayor ejemplar (también muy fragmentario) actualmente representa al mamífero terrestre más grande de todos los tiempos de hasta 5,2 metros de altura, con 22 toneladas de peso, cosa que debe tomarse con cuidado pues no se ha recuperado hasta la fecha un ejemplar completo. Esperemos que nuevos hallazgos nos briden más información de este animal.

Hay un detalle respecto a las medidas de este animal, cuando se publicó en 2016 hubo un pequeño detalle, se emplearon las medidas de los ejemplares descritos en 1834, 1837, 1846 y 1859, pero actualmente no se cuenta con ninguno de esos ejemplares, todos están perdidos y se emplearon las medidas de aquellos años para establecer el tamaño de este supuesto elefante colosal, pero las medidas empleadas en aquel entonces no estaban estandarizadas, es decir no son las mismas que usamos en la actualidad, además de que ninguno de estos hallazgos se describió formalmente, solo fueron reportes geológicos sin mucho detalle, por lo cual las medidas hay que tomarlas con mucha precaución, dejando claro que solo uno de los ejemplares era "grande" y se ha tomado desde entonces como una medida estandar para Palaeoloxodon namadicus, cuando no es el caso y no se sabe del paradero de esos restos, un caso idéntico al de Amphicoelias fragillimus..
