Yess lol
Floridians are dying of the “cold” ha ha. Goin' up north on Friday so I’ll be getting away from 50 degrees and into below 30s. I don’t mind though, I love the cold

IM CRYING HES SO CUTE
I LOVE his markings !
Oh boy, he’s a /real/ border collie then haha
hes going to have a CRAZY high herding drive, so you’ll have to really keep an eye on him. They get obsessive over things easily, and sometimes try to herd moving cars.
Thats why I went with a show line BC, cause the show lines kinda tried to breed out the intensity of a real border collie, since they’re bred for looks not working ability. Bentley has a herding drive of course (you can never fully breed that out), but he’s no where near as intense about it as some working collies I’ve seen.
You should definitely get Ranger into some sports, he’d be great! They’re so eager to please you <3

Haha I know right hes so damn precious *o*
His mumma is just a companion so its a good mix of both, we got a child he can herd though X"D And two cats haha..
I plan on training him into agility (Not professionally). But I'm going to build him a course in the backyard and everything ^.^ I heard that doing sports is good way to get rid of that energy.

I agree with Jackkdaw on that one! (x
My Border Collie boy just turned one, he's 75% working line.

They are highly driven dogs so your pup is definitely going to need to be kept busy! Borders don't need as much exercise as a lot of people claim, but they do need that mental stimulation on the regular to prevent them from going crazy. You can't leave them to their own devices or they will literally rip up your walls. xDD I wouldn't generally recommend them as first-time dogs unless the owner is super dedicated to meeting their needs every day!
Training's going to be a must right from the beginning, so start the same week you bring him home! It'll make living with him manageable, since BCs weren't really meant to be pets (especially working line dogs). If you'd like tips just note me, I've been training for 7 years and I'm super close to graduating as a certified professional dog trainer! Again, it's something I highly recommend for this breed. They will be an owner's worst nightmare if they're not well-trained!
One BIG thing, make sure you socialize him heavily the first several months you have him. This is vital if you want him to become a friendly adult. I got my Border at 4 months and he wasn't socialized by his breeder, he ended up being fear reactive which means he would bark at things that scared him (which was everything, lol). An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Making sure he has positive experiences with people, friendly dogs, cats, noises, places, etc. will help to prevent him from becoming fearful. It's a common problem in Border Collies because they are so sensitive and need more socialization than some other breeds would.
If you see he's behaving fearfully towards something, especially people, contact me. It's normal for puppies at certain ages but you never wanna force him to interact with something that's scary to him, since this can teach him to be afraid of or even aggressive towards it!
Good luck with your agility aspirations! Border Collies are the best dogs in the world as long as you are dedicated to taking care of all their needs! I got my boy thinking we were going to be heavy into agility but it turned out that we liked doing tricks too. xD Both sports are excellent ways to keep that Border brain busy! (:

Thank you so much for all the advice it all helps a tonn!.
We are first time dog owners however we both have had family dogs before we were together (While we were kids living separately with our parents)
I'm also a vet nurse so I've got a ton of experience around dogs, plus I just adore animals.
I've been watching tons and tons of videos on you tube about training and just about border collies in general,
Do you use clickers for training? I'm trying to get ahold of one because I've heard nothing but good things about them aslong as their used correctly and consistently.
With the socializing, is that with humans and/or dogs? We don't know many people with dogs maybe only a handful so that might be a problem, but a lot of our family visit and because we're getting him legit a day before christmas XD We're having people over for christmas lunch.

Sounds like you're off to a good start then! It's typically only with people who are inexperienced with dogs in general that I would try to steer in another direction, Borders are best around dog-savvy people. (;
YouTube is how I started my education! There're tons of great resources on there, but be aware there are just as many bad ones! Try to stay away from any channel that advises the use of dominance training or heavy corrections; you probably already know that though but just in case!!
I highly recommend these channels: Kikopup, Training Positive, Kristin Crestejo CDBC, Bad Dog Agility, Pam's Dog Academy, and Zak George's Dog Training rEvolution.
People I would look up include: Karen Pryor, Ian Dunbar, Dr. Sophia Yin, and Emily Larlham (Kikopup). There are others that I can't remember at the moment. xD
I do use clickers, but I used to rely on them a lot more in the past than I do now. They're an excellent tool to use to improve your timing in training (and timing is very important if you wanna do precision work like in agility), but just like any tool they have their good and bad sides. Now a days I'm much more into using my voice to communicate with my dogs, and because my timing is well-developed I'm able to use my voice almost exactly the same as a clicker. "Yes" essentially replaces the "click" of the clicker, and you can even change the pitch of the word (which you can't do with clickers) to tell the dog if they did good or GREAT! I think what made me make the switch in the end was the fact that my hands needed more freedom. Lugging around a toy, plus a leash, plush a clicker, plus a bouncy dog, it gets pretty awkward sometimes. xDD But again, excellent tool to learn on and even to use throughout the dog's life, I just recommend you use both a clicker and your voice interchangeably!
Socialization goes for everything, not only dogs and people! All things he'll be expected to be good around he should be exposed to at a young age. Noises too, from the weird to the loud and everything in between! Lots of different locations as well so he's comfortable no matter where you take him. Oh, and let's not forget handling as well. He should be okay with you handling him all over no questions asked. (:
What I've found with socializing is, if you have a limited number of possible dogs you can expose a puppy to, they tend to become well-socialized with those specific dogs and others like them. For example, if you only socialize your puppy with black dogs then he'll be good with black dogs but maybe not dogs of other colors. If he's only around small dogs then large dogs might scare him. Same goes for people, he should be around as many different types of people as possible because dogs suck at generalizing; for example if he's only around women and children then he might develop a fear of men, or if he's not socialized around people who wear hats or glasses he may become afraid of that. Same goes for people of different races! I'm convinced there's no such thing as too much socialization as long as it's done with common sense and doesn't tire or frighten the puppy. All happy things should come when he's around new things! And typically, the more variety you have the more he will tend to generally accept new things as an adult. (;
I would recommend this being one of your top priorities in "training." You can hit two birds with one stone by teaching him very basic cues like sit and then practicing polite sits around people he meets so that jumping never becomes a problem. As for real obedience training though, he can wait until he's around 4 or 5 months old to really get into serious training such as down, leave it, heel, etc (this is also around the time where you would start foundation training for agility). You never get the same opportunity to socialize him again for his lifetime and the experiences he will have until around 4 months of age will generally determine how he is throughout his life. Not set in stone of course, but it becomes a lot harder to fix any socialization problems after about 16 weeks. You also wanna make sure that your breeder's exposed him to new things before. It's easy to become overwhelmed if a puppy's been started off on the wrong foot. Puppies kept outdoors tend to be less socialized than those raised in a home!

Aw that is so awesome!
Do you have to travel far to get him?
Bentley’s breeder was awesome too.
She’s an AKC breeder that lives like an hour away and has so many champion dogs, but she was SUPER sweet. She crate trained Bentley for us (and we went out to see the litter and pick him out and she even let us take him home for a couple days to see if he was a right fit, then we went out of town right after we dropped him back off with her and she watched him for us until we got back)
she wanted to teach us how to show because she originally wanted to show him haha. She’s like so involved and helped teach us how to train him, groom him, etc. she gave him his shots for us too.
She also breeds whippets and had a litter born at the same time and they were SO CUTE.
she has more puppies than she needs right now so she’s trying to find them homes.
Border collies aren’t in high demand in our area, so she’s had a hard time finding local homes for em. They have amazing pedigrees though, so they usually end up going to homes in other states

Holy crap lol that’s a far drive. That’s super awesome of her though, wow!
Yeah she’s great!
Id like to, but we’re getting him neutered so we wouldn’t be able to do AKC shows.
Ive looked into the UKC though and they have some programs for altered dogs, so I’d really like to (x
its a lot of work haha
