Yea, I don't hate Aang, I just think the 12year old Aang in the show shouldn't have been having romance in the series at that age..Now if they made them teenagers, I would've been a little more okay with the kataang relationship. Still, I am the weird child and would automatically go with the Zutara relationship...heck, I would love it even more, because I could play around with it more..lol '

Like history, whenever a person becomes famous/legendary, their names are popular. (I actually did consider their names in the comic, and how they can be named after strong leaders and powerful people/benders of the past.)
Toph was named after the powerful 'Sifu Toph' hundreds of years ago. It was shocking to her parents that she carries a lot of the same attributes as the famed metalbender. The main difference now is that they're just friends from school, instead of teacher and student.
