By making it a .gif animation, it has been rasterized. A vector image is an image consisting of mathematical equations presented in a graphical form. A raster image is an image consisting of pixels. Better?

I 'rasterize' my text layers in PS to make them mergable.. I get what you mean except for that first sentence!

The one to the left is a vector version of a red sphere, the one to the right is a raster version. Raster is just a name for the usual way images are built up, nothing more. You can zoom in indefinitely on a vector image and never see those jagged edges you see on the raster image. Better now?

Because you made a vector into a gif. Gif can only show raster images, which in turn would mean that you rasterized your vector, meaning that your deviation here, "MATHEMATICAL", is a raster image
