tittle picked by the wonderful ~JonnyBlackmage

Lucas and Boney from Mother 3. Boney is the dog if you couldn't figure it out I am awful at drawing animals. Won't spoil nothing for those of you who have yet to play the game, I will say I felt so bad for Lucas....

the game made me cry a number of times...yes...video games make me cry >> actually...anything sad makes me cry...

um, well I will say that this picture is probably from the time between chapters 3 and 4, even if the background looks nothing like it should from the game.... Also, I couldn't resist adding sunflowers, play Mother 3 and you'll know why....

Lucas's eyes are spaced to far apart I think, plus he has small arms :/ Boney doesn't really look like Boney as well.. I don't really like the tree in the front, or the roof to the house....Please forgive the bad lighting and shadows!

question everyone!! do you like the background? do you like it more than how I normally draw backgrounds? I tried something really diffrent with this picture, and if you like it better, then I will do it again!!

Lucas and Boney are (c) to Nintendo

I think the both look fine. Lucas' expression fits him well since alot of emotional actions and changes not only occur to him, but those around him. Mother3 was probably the first and only(as of now) GBA game to make me baw. Well, not literally, but my eyes become very watery. Great art for a fantastic game. Damn Nintendo America for never releasing it for the states, but thankfully there are hardworking people out there that appreciate it enough to make a ROM. The sunflowers are a great add too. Gives it a true MOTHER3 feel. Awesome job. It looks great. :>

I cry easily, over anything sad. Mother 3 just made me cry a number of times, especially at the end

-but that didn't stop me from loving the game . I actually had just recently dipped my toe into the Mother/Earthbound series, and I have quickly fallen in love with it. I sort of hope I can convince other people who would otherwise overlook the series to give it a try as well.

well, thank you very much I still think I need to fix up his face a bit, maybe the nose and eyes like a few have suggested.

"title picked by the wonderful ~JonnyBlackmage " Aww... You know how to make a goofball feel so special, Maggie.

Change can be good, but in Lucas's case it was the worst change... that game was one of the saddest games I've ever played. (Definately the saddest in the Mother series.)

You did a beautiful job on portraying the same sad feel that was shown in the game. Boney, I have no problem with, and I can stand Lucas' thin arms (hey, he's not the toughest fighter.), but the position of the face is kind of bothersome. You could lower the right (technically his left) eye and shift the nose a little. If head angling's a problem, I could help you with those.

Otherwise, fantastic work!

Mother 3 now ranks up right behind Xenosaga( II&III ) as saddest game I've ever played.

actually, Lucas's eyes also need to be closer together, nose also needs to be bigger....but will I ever fix it? probably not

daww thanks for offering to help sweetie! but you have to concentrate on your school work plus, I like to learn things on my own, (and not bother anyone in the process). your advice you gave me was more than enough thank you

MGS4 came pretty close to being sad, but not as sad as Mother 3. Heck, even the new Castlevania game I finally beat had a sad story there too, but again: not as gripping as Mother 3. Game developers love their games sad these days, eh?

It's a matter of choice. You really don't have to do it if you don't feel like doing it.

I appreciate the support on me having to go to college, but it kinda hurts when I can't help because of it. But thanks for the concern. And I'm glad that the advice was more than enough.

It's a good background! the only problem is scale, I think.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lady-of-Link In reply to Kairu-Hakubi [2008-12-03 14:23:46 +0000 UTC]

scale huh? that's sort of what I wanted to work on, with this. the sunflowers being big because they are in the front, and the cabin and cliffs being far away...

what do you think is off on it? any thoughts on how to fix it as well?

Kairu-Hakubi In reply to Lady-of-Link [2008-12-03 23:54:08 +0000 UTC]

Well I'm not any better at it, that's for sure, I think the hill is what's throwing me off. The fact that the foreground is at a much higher elevation than the background, right? My eye is drawing a line from the sunflowers to him and then to the background and the house is right there... but that's because there's a hill.. I dunno, maybe it's fine. XD

Lady-of-Link In reply to Kairu-Hakubi [2008-12-04 17:02:43 +0000 UTC]

actually, i tried to base it off of his home, and there are lots of cliffs around the island town, so I guess I failed in making it look like that, seeing you think they're hills

Kairu-Hakubi In reply to Lady-of-Link [2008-12-04 23:19:15 +0000 UTC]

Cliffs makes PERFECT sense. I was trying NOT to say that you kinda messed up if those are hills because they're so stark..
I've just never seen a village built on terraced cliffs like that.. but now that I think back to gameplay video I've seen, that DOES fit. XD

I can see you put alot of detail into the BG. I see the little leaves from the light filtering through. And the sunbeams in the sky are a nice touch ^^ Excellent job on the entire piece of art! ^o^
video games sometimes make me cry. I was going to burst into tears of joy at the end of FFIX X3 And i almost cried once when i listened to Towards That Gate

Meh, maybe if you made Lucas' nose a tad bigger it would help the way the eyes look? And yeah, thicken his arms out a tad.
BG looks kinda interesting, I guess

btw, is Boney a party member or just a supporting character?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lady-of-Link In reply to Ryengu [2008-12-03 18:43:46 +0000 UTC]

Boney is actually one of the main 4 characters you get, he dose little when it comes to adding to the story, but it's still nice to see such loyalty from his family pet

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ryengu In reply to Lady-of-Link [2008-12-03 19:49:36 +0000 UTC]

Indeed ^^
What kind of abilities does he have?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lady-of-Link In reply to Ryengu [2008-12-04 17:14:07 +0000 UTC]

well, he bites the baddies but there is one weapon you can equip him with that you find late in the game. he also can 'snif' the monster so you can learn what it is weak against, very handy in boss fights.

but mainly I had him hold restoring items. due to him only being able to equip one piece of armor, he had lots of room in his inventory for things, and his fast speed made him go first alot of the time, often saving the day when others take mortal damage.

I love everything about it so much! The BG the charaters! Both awsome!

I LOVE how you have it ins a "happy" setting, but the characterΒ΄s exprestions over power the BGΒ΄s happy mood and gives the pictuire a sad mood! Not many pictures are like that! Usealy the whol thing is sad or happy!

I won't say exactly the parts I am thinking, because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone...

don't get me wrong, the game certainly has humor much like Earthbound, it's just this one in the series has much more sad and serious parts as well.

No, Earthbound was anything but sad (though I did feel a little sad at the final boss fight. but mother 3, that was a VERY sad game...

yeah, I consider myself to be the lucky one for finding someone who puts up with all my junk, really...It's not really official just yet, until we have our first date/outing together, so until then, I won't be talking about him that much

True, Lucas managed to become very strong after the sad events that took place (though he still had a reputation for being a cry baby), but it's still just awful to go through something like he did...
