Direct Tumblr [Link Here]Some quick sketch studies I fiddled with this weekend of the new Angara alien species. They’re pretty neat (love the blues and purples), and the elegance of the females.
I couldn’t get a good look at how many toes/fingers they have so the little body study might be inaccurate.
I know everyone is going wild for Jaal but I wanna wait until I hear his voice (they keep teasing us over on twitter about it), and see what his personality is like before I get too interested. For some reason, he’s currently giving me Javik vibes.
*Sorry I've been so dead over here on deviantART lately. I haven't had much time to work on and finish anything big other than my commission queue right now and I usually don't post sketches and unfinished stuff over here (I do over on Tumblr and Twitter mostly). I have some other sketch dump stuff I'd like to share throughout the week and I'll probably start posting more sketches/WIPs here, too just so you guys know I'm alive.

I believe we do hear Jaal's voice on this video:

This is only my belief...but this voice is male, has a heavy accent like the angara female we heard and doesn't sound like the Archon's species either (the krett).
The voice is slightly flanged though, not unlike a turian...but the accent makes me believe he's not turian.
He says "This is incredible" and "I have a bad feeling".

Ah yes, I did see some people mention that somewhere which I think is definitely plausible.
My thoughts are that it personally sounds very similar to Javik to me (which would be ironic considering that his overall appearance gave me a Javik feel with the aquatic design and serious, rather stern expression), and while Javik was an enjoyable character humor wise, I'm not so sure I'd have much interest in romancing him or someone who reminds me too much of him, if that makes sense. Just not a personal preference. Hopefully BioWare will reveal more info on him soon, and if not, I still look forward to meeting him in game; he's very cool, even if I end up having no interest in romancing him.
Kallo, on the other hand, has caught my interest, as unobtainable as he'd probably be.

He does sound very similar to Javik--in which I don't mind at all lol Javik is one of my favorite characters; particularly because of his voice. But so is Garrus lol I wouldn't mind a similarity. I kind of expect the angara to have some sort of accent--being a different galaxy and all.
But we shall see won't we?

Ah, you mean how the male's forehead protrudes out? I thought that was a neat design choice but I'm getting the feeling that the females are leaning on the more human design choice again. I still like them a lot, I just noticed that Jaal has a lot more alien facial features compared to what we could see of the females.

Ah yeah, the cobra hood kinda look going on. I got a very Togruta/Twi'lek + Zora (Zelda) mix from the design. The females in particular though reminded me of Queen Tuya from The Prince of Egypt, which I love.
And same here but I gotta say, at this point in time, his expression is coming off overly serious/aggressive for me. He keeps giving off this sense of silently judging you, which considering that entrance with Ryder's arms up, I'd say that seems about right, heh.

I'm not sure yet if he's my type. I only really liked Garrus for a romance option and Jaal seems more on the side of Thane vs Garrus to me (but that might just be the aquatic thing throwing me off). Or maybe he's just too pretty for me, lol. I'm more of a gruff Krogan kinda person, but I don't wanna pre-judge him too much before getting to know him; I'll feel like a derp if he ends up being a fav.
As for not knowing details, I completely understand. I'm ridiculously anal about being accurate with fanart to the point of driving myself nuts, which is one reason I held off sketching him until I came across more official refs, such as the side profile render.

I think what makes him so intriguing to me is that he's completely new. No ones really met these guys before I need him to tell me ALL THE THINGS about his people. I have a pretty bad radar for characters I'll like in game haha thought I'd hate Dorian but oh look there he is, my absolute bestie. Didn't like Cullen in the previous DA games OH NO NOW HE'S MY HUSBAND.
So bad. I just need it to get here quicker haha
