Description

When Leo arrived at the theater after leading Bruce there, he entered the building, and before he could call out a greeting, he was swept into a hug by Balan. "Leo! I'm so glad you came," he said with a smile, happy to see the boy.

"Hey, Balan," Leo said, hugging his friend back, not minding the surprise hug. "How are things going here?"

"Things are going well, just doing some more cleaning," the tall man replied.

Just then, Bruce came in and Balan noticed him, blinking in surprise. “Wait... You're the gentleman that is always picking up trash around the area,” he said.

“That's me,” the man said with a smile. “My name is Bruce, and you must be Balan.”

The tall man nodded. “This is the first time you've ever actually talked to me,” he pointed out, his tone curious.

Bruce smiled. "Well, young Leo told me about helping you, and I grew curious, especially since I didn't believe any of the rumors," he said.

This surprised Balan. "You... You didn't believe the rumors?" He asked, his surprise turning to happiness, knowing that someone didn't believe in the rumors that had spread. And Bruce mainly had just left him alone before.

"Nah, there's not always truth to a lot of rumors. Besides, you honestly looked lonely and heartsick, in my opinion."

“He's not alone anymore now,” said Yuri as she came up and smiled, giving Balan a hug. He smiled at her and gently ruffled her hair, making her giggle.

Bruce smiled at this before looking around, seeing that the theater was not in the best shape but was getting better. "Looks like you guys have the basics, but perhaps I can offer a few suggestions on a permanent fix?" He asked.

"What do you have in mind?" Cal asked curiously, open to suggestions.

The older man turned to Balan. “Balan, how is the plumbing and heat in this place?” He asked.

The tall man bit his lip. “Well... I haven't had heat since last year,” he admitted. “The water still works and is drinkable but only runs cold, I'm afraid.”

"Alright, we need to look into the heating then. Sounds like the plumbing is working alright, but it wouldn't hurt to check it just to be on the safe side. Make sure we don't have any broken or cracked pipes," he said, sincerely hoping there were none.

"Do you think it'll be ready in time for winter, Grandpa Rocky?" Leo asked.

"Hard to say, kiddo. But if I'm being frank, it may not be done until sometime this winter with all that needs to be done," Bruce admitted.

That statement made Balan worry because the chill was already settling in, indicating winter would be upon them soon. "That means... You all run the risk of getting sick," he said, looking worried.

They nodded. "Well, why don't we get started on it and we'll see how far we get before winter fully comes upon us," Bruce said.

"He's right," Eis said. "We won't know how much has to be done until we start on it. And who knows? Maybe it will be a simple fix."

"Bruce, is there anything we can do for temporary insulation in the meantime?" Lucy asked.

"Some strong plastic and tape will work temporarily until the insulation is done," the older man said.

Cal looked a bit worried. "What if things are beyond what we can do and we have to call someone?" He asked. "Repair bills can run a bit high."

"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," Iben said.

Balan gulped at the thought since he didn't have money. Emma noticed how worried their friend looked. “Don't worry, Balan,” she said. “We're doing what we can to raise money to rebuild this place.”

“Yeah,” Leo said. “We'll get the money needed, somehow.”

Eis grew thoughtful. "I have some buddies that work with plumbing and heating. If the repairs are beyond us, I'll give them a call," he said.

"And I know a few people who can help," Bruce said.

Fiona smiled and looked at Balan. "See? Not all hope is lost," she said. "I'm sure we can succeed."

He took a deep breath, smiling at her as he appreciated how everyone was staying upbeat, which filled him with more hope that all would be well.

So here's the context

Bruce finally meets Balan for the first time, seeing for sure that Balan isn't a bad person. The theater is starting to come together slowly, with all of Balan's friends helping him.

But there are still a few issues to address, like the heat and plumbing. There is no heat to keep the theater warm, and the water runs cold. And with the winter chill already settling in, it could be a big health risk for everyone.

There is talk of calling for help, but repair bills cost an arm and a leg, and Balan, being poor, has no money. Thankfully, Bruce seems to have a plan to keep everything in shape for a short amount of time.

This is my Lonesome Maestro AU. When Balan's first show was a disaster, and everyone left him. He's become very lonely and sad due to no one being around. Until Leo and Emma showed up and try to change his life for the better.
