Description I just loved this wedding dress of Ariel's . It was so pretty, & totally screamed 80s in style. Claire Hummel made use of the popular Victorian look of 80s wedding gowns to create an 1890s version on her page. The image I made here on the Tudors Scene-Maker is based on what's in the actual movie.

This is the biggest reason ppl love this version of "Little Mermaid," compared to Hans Christian Andersen's original story. In the original, the prince was discovered on the beach by another woman, & he mistook her to be his rescuer. So even when the Little Mermaid sacrificed her voice for legs to be with her prince, he was already in love w/ some1 else! (Totally unfair!) At one point, her sisters traded their hair for a magic dagger from the Sea Witch, & gave it to their youngest sister. All she had to do was plunge it into the prince's heart & she would become a mermaid again. But because she was in love w/ the prince, regardless of how he felt about her, the Little Mermaid chose to let him live & threw herself into the sea. In doing so she died & somehow gained an immortal soul so she could go to heaven (kind of ironic, considering she was basically committing suicide).

I liked that Disney left this out & let Ariel & Eric get together, like they SHOULD have done.

On Halloween, I've actually seen little girls use this as an alternative costume to wearing a mermaid tail when going as Ariel.
