Description Believe it or not, this is from the Wedding Lily dress-up game: www.dolldivine.com/wedding-lil… . This game doesn't just cover Western wedding gowns, it shows wedding costume from around the world!  I think it's pretty cool, especially since Japanese weddings are pretty interesting, especially today.  I don't know if white was always worn by the bride in every part of Japanese history, (since white is normally a mourning color in the Far East) but this type of costume can sometimes be seen on Japanese brides today if they want to go the traditional route.  Sometimes the outer robe for the bride is very colorful.  And yes, the hat is essential.

I remember once reading that a modern Japanese wedding can go in 3 stages: 1 - the bride & groom wear wedding kimonos and do the traditional ceremony; 2 - they then change into a modern white gown & tux and perform a Western ceremony; and 3 - the bride changes into a fancy modern gown for the reception.  I don't know if all Japanese do this for their weddings, but I know some include at least 1 or 2 of these rituals when they tie the knot.

You do realize that in Japan, white is actually a funeral color right?

This kimono is worn during the ceremony only, and symbolizes the bride that "dies" in her father's house

I did read it, but according to my college history professor, who actually spent five years there, traditionally, white and black are swapped when it comes to weddings and funerals.

OMG!  I just figured out the mystery!   The bride wears white because she's mourning over having to leave her family, as well as the color symbolizing purity!  Okay, I think that finally makes sense now.

Ah, that does make sense. So I guess 1 all. On another note, does that program have one for any of the African regions?

No. Sadly it mostly covers Western styles & some of the styles of the Orient.  Other than that, I don't see any African styles available.

Darn, that would have been cool to see. Well, I don't know what time zone you're in, but it's well past midnight for me, so I'm signing off. Nice discussion session.
