Description An olive skinned wolf-girl in her mid twenties stood in front of an average sized apartment complex. Her long wavy black hair framed her face almost trying to point out the sadness in her pointed orange eyes. “You don’t have to do this Ulfrinn, you could always stay home. I mean it’s the more traditional wolf thing to do.” She spoke her voice soft and velvety, turning slightly to face her younger brother.

“Thanks Kainda, but I just feel like I have to do this, you know.” Ulfrinn spoke keeping his eyes on the building in front of him. He knew that if he faced his sister right now, she’d be in tears. He couldn’t handle that right now. Ulfrinn had decided several months back that moving out and finding his own home and life was what he wanted to do. Kainda was the only one to support his efforts, helping him find a job, and an apartment close by that was in his price range. He knew she didn’t want him to leave, but he also knew that she understood. Kainda had always been the only one in the family to understand him. Ulfrinn smiled faintly remembering when he’d first come home with his new haircut, and the tips of his hair and tail dyed electric blue, everyone had flipped except Kainda who had laughed and thought that it looked cute.

“All right.” Kainda sighed, as she faced her brother fully and then grasped him in a brief tight hug. Trying her best to hold back tears, “Ulfrinn, just remember, we’re still family. I’ll always be there for you, ok?” Kainda watched as her brother nodded, still avoiding eye contact. She sniffled, then not able to hold herself back grabbed her brother around the neck, she felt Ulfrinn wrap one of his arms around her back. Kainda smiled softly as she released her brother and began to walk away, knowing deep down he was going to be all right.

Ulfrinn let out a sigh. This was it, this was the start of his life. He tried to avoid letting his imagination getting any further than that not wanting to set expectations that could never be fulfilled. After another deep breath Ulfrinn picked up the couple of boxes that he’d brought with him, and entered the building. Instantly he could feel a temperature change the brisk autumn air replaced with the warmth of a space heater. Ulfrinn set down his boxes and approached the front desk, where a middle aged fox sat, her copper hair tied into a ponytail her eyes focused on reading some papers that lay on her desk.

“Excuse me?” Ulfrinn belted out, his voice coming out much gruffer than he expected it to, startling the woman at the desk, whose vibrant green eyes suddenly darted to Ulfrinn, “Are you Ms. Lawinski?”

Suddenly the woman broke into a broad smile, standing up, “Oh please call me Nali. You must be Ulfrinn.”

“Yeah.” Ulfrinn mumbled under his breath, a little shocked she was able to tell who he was. “I’m sposed to be moving in today.”

“That you are dear, that you are.” The woman’s smile turned into a look of concern “I see you’ve already signed the lease. As I told you before each apartment comes so cheap because you have to share it with somebody else, usually we want you to meet who you will be rooming with before having you sign the lease.”

“Yeah, you already told me over the phone” Ulfrinn sighed, digging his right hand into his pocket, “But really how bad can any roommate be? I’m sure that it’ll all be fine.”

“Allright then” The woman said her vibrant smile returning as she pulled out a key, “You’re apartment 561, which is on the fifth floor dear. Will you be needing any help with your boxes?”

“I’ve got them.” Ulfrinn replied as he took the key from Nali, picked up his boxes and proceeded up the stairs. It took him several minutes and a couple of breaks before Ulfrinn finally reached his apartment. Upon entering it seemed Ordinary enough, a large room with a very distinct kitchen area, a single worn sofa set in front of a small television. True there was quite a bit of green, pink, and orange, but Ulfrinn didn’t mind going further into the apartment he saw a small hallway that had a door at the end of it, and a couple of other doors along the walls, all close. Ulfrinn sighed as he put his boxes down on the kitchen table forgetting to close the door behind him.

“Hello!” A female voice suddenly came from behind Ulfrinn, surprising him. Ulfrinn turned to see a young rabbit, maybe a head shorter than him, and about his age staring at him with her big bright blue eyes. Her brown hair was straight and was just a few shades lighter than her ears. She wore an orange and green plaid skirt, polka dotted socks, a bright pink blouse with a striped undershirt.

“ummm Hi?” Ulfrinn replied leaning against the table with a groan. He saw the open door behind the girl and instantly deduced that she must be a neighbor, he knew he’d might have to meet them eventually, but this this was just not what he wanted. “You live near here.?”

The girl laughed confusing Ulfrinn, “You could say that, in fact you can say that I live here.” With that she spun a circle which ended having her face right in his face, ‘You must be my new roommate! Hi! I’m Marha!!”

“You?” Ulfrinn really couldn’t believe this, “You’re my new roommate, but you’re a..:

“A rabbit? Incredibly cute? Wearing the most fantabulous outfit?” Marha suggested striking a different pose with each new question, Her smile never fading.

“A girl.” Ulfrinn spluttered out, true he’d expected a room mate he just never expected it’d be of the opposite sex.

Marha looked at Ulfrinn her smile replaced with a look of confusion for a brief second, but a brief second only for as soon as that second was over she smiled even bigger tilting her head to one side, “You’re kinda silly.”
