Halloween should be considered as "Evil Nemeses and Villains' Day", just because it's Halloween and the Final Fantasy antagonists from Dissidia deserve to have a break of trying to take over the world or destroying it or whatever that is that they are trying to do that the protagonists prevent them to achieve. Who's with me?!
This illustration is for the 's Halloween Theme contest. Yay, another one and this time, no Nintendo references! (sorry to those who disappoint)
The scenario is in an alternative universe Ultimecia (aka Victoria Alucard) hosts a masquerade party for the Warriors of Chaos for the Halloween holiday, and her hosting works out perfectly for the theme, because her castle is haunted, really haunted. I am not lying, it is!! The party was soon to start with the annual festivities but the other villains are still yet to arrive. Nevertheless, while waiting for other guests, Ultimecia presents a preview of her finest "wine on the vein" for her first four guests. Only three of the masked took a sample. The fourth being the Jolly Jester (Kefka) who wanted to entertain the guests, or himself since no one pay little attention, with some juggling to pass the time. His Highness (Mateus the Emperor) sips an example of the wine and examine the flavor, which turns out later he enjoyed the drink and will soon be asking for another glass. Meanwhile, thinking that the Graceful Peacock (Kuja) was a woman, the Diamond Stud (Sephiroth) takes this advantage of trying to seduce him. He took this kind of seductive behavior from Mateus damn it!
I had really fun designing the costumes and the masks. My personal favorite is the Diamond Stud costume, just because of the vest. I had to use reference for the lobby-fayor area of Ultimecia's Castle. It didn't planted itself in my head until I remember after seeing the final scenes of Final Fantasy VIII, showing the interior of the castle. The original idea of the background was the art gallery, but seeing the amount of space at the fayor, I changed my mind for the purpose of adding cobwebs to make the castle looked haunted than it intended to be.
Now, I wish you all deviants a Happy Halloween and have fun Trick-or-Treating or passing out your candy to the Trick-or-Treaters!
