As the storm faded behind them, and the quick and easy dangers with it, the sun slipped beyond the horizon. It seemed to Nim that it happened all at once, the light going and the night coming to loom over them - stars staring down at the three of them as the sunlight faded from view. The colt snuggled into the damp, cool grass, long legs and young mind tired from the energy spent on the day. Likewise, Iva was fighting her own war with sleep, large brown eyes carrying heavy lids. Even Nim could feel the stress of the day in his body, muscles aching and anxiety prickling.

" Sleep," he advised the pale brown mare, who blinked at him gratefully, for once. For a moment, a rush of bemused affection ensnared his thoughts as her head dipped lower, lower, until her nose brushed the fluffy tuft of her colt's mane. Yet, when Nim sought his own sleep, it escaped him with annoying ease. Had he lost his mind? Did he truly think he was going to keep this mare and her colt? Yes, he snarled internally, blue gaze narrowing at a far pine tree, he was. He and Iva may have not had the best start, but at least she was no fawning, simpering maiden to be gently in awe over. No, he thought, she was worse. She always had a counter-argument on the tip of her tongue and was as easily unafraid to tell him what was what when she saw it so.

A wave of tiredness slammed into him. Perhaps the questions would have to be answered in the coming days, perhaps weeks. They would both come to find out much more about one another - one way or another.

Iva, for her own self, dreamed of the new life blooming in her. Eventually Serus would move on - and a new foal would take his place.
