Description My second entry for 's Egyptian theme contest.

While my first entry I wanted of Sesshomaru and Kagome in character but with the Egyptian setting, this time I wanted them to look like something out of traditional Egyptian artwork. (You can see my first entry here: [link] )

In this piece, Kagome embodies the goddess Ma'at, and Sesshomaru embodies Osiris. I know Osiris and Ma'at were not a married pair, but I thought Sesshomaru and Kagome's personalities fit them so well.

Ma'at was the goddess of truth, justice, and harmony. She wore a feather in her hair. It was believed when a person died, they would travel to the hall of the dead and their heart would be weighed against Ma'at's feather. If their heart was lighter than the feather, they would live forever. If it was heavier, it would be eaten by the Ammit the Destroyer. Kagome was very dedicated to collecting the jewel shards. She always did what she believed was right and was always thinking of others. That is why I thought she would be perfect as Ma'at. I included a scale in her hand for the weighing of the heart, and I tried to design her dress somewhat reminiscent of her schoolgirl uniform- green pleats, light top, the little red jewel in place of the red tie.

Osiris is the God of the Dead and dressed all in white with a white crown. He was murdered by his jealous brother Seth and became the first mummy and God of the Dead. He carries a crook (to catch sheep) and a flail (to threash wheat) which were power symbols. Egyptian dead were mummified and buried with their belongings to bring with them to the afterlife. Death wasn't seen as a negative thing. This character spoke out to me a lot for Sesshomaru because he is respected, powerful, and has power over the dead. Sesshomaru is also in a position of power as Lord of the Western lands, and also carries the tenseiga, which can bring the dead back to life. I kept his outfit white and almost mummy-like, but added Sessh's yellow sash, and a small patch of his iconic floral design. Just for fun, I also made his thone have a similar pattern to Kagome's dress. Finally, I added the ankh, which is the symbol of life.

Drawing is colored with Prismacolor and Sharpie markers, gold Fabe-Castel pen, white gel pen, and Sakura micron pens. It's on 7 x 11 inch bristol board. Took about 3 hours 10 minutes to complete.

Thanks for looking!
