Odin and Loki, sharing a passionate moment after Loki managed to break the thong sewing shut his lipsbecause in some versions of the myth I found (not the Edda one, that’s pretty much poor in details) it is said that Odin actually defends Loki, saying that the dwarves’s request is evil and unfair… so maybe after all the mess he went looking for him? ;3

IMPORTANT
this is MY interpretation of Norse Mythology, and even if I'm trying to stick as much as I can to the Edda, I DO NOT WISH FOR IT TO BE A FAITHFUL DEPICTION!
so if you feel offended because the hair color of a god is not the one you always imagined it to be, because the relationship between two divine beings is slightly different than the one you find in myths or things like that PLEASE KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF.
still I'm open to civil interactions with people willing to show me different versions of the myths I know or willing to share their personal views on some passages of the Edda or on the imaginary surrounding some deities, every mature person is more than welcomed to discuss with me on those matters.

I love this. I love the complex nature of Odin and Loki relationship. Its something thats almost impossible to fully comprehend by modern standards and morals. But I think this picture does justice to the tender side of thier very close, sometimes sexual, sometimes platonic, sometimes brotherly, sometimes adversarial relationship. As a Vanatruar Heathen I totally approve! XD

I can actually believe that the two may have had interactions. I always believed there might be a similar thing in greek mythology, too. Because during the times of the actual myth, there was nothing against two males being together or two females being together.
Either way, I do enjoy the way you interpreted this and I really need to find more Norse mythology books, since I feel like I know nothing.

Also, like the picture, the concept amuses me, and Odin's being a bit of a dick there. I mean yes, Loki is probably a masochist all to buggery, but ya shouldn't kiss with your lips all sliced up.

Just to say, this is fantastic! The colouring style and lineart you used, coupled with the limited palette, makes it really atmospheric; red is the colour of danger and pain as well as of love, and this picture has all of them in spades. Also, furs and eyepatches on men drive me wild. Loooovely...
On another note, f*ck the trolls. Most of the preChristian societies accepted homosexuality as the valid part of nature that it is and their myths reflected that, generally it's only Christians and other monotheastic religions that have a problem with it. If you look at mythology in general, the gods could put even the most free-loving hippies to shame- Isis and Osiris were siblings yet lovers, in one legend Horus and Seth slept together, Thor once crossdressed, and I believe you when you say that Odin and Loki were lovers.
In short, I can ship it!

What might help for future trolls, is to hide the comment immediately, then ignore it. Trolls get bored really quickly if you don't respond (as much as you/others want to reply to or correct the troll, responding only makes them only makes it worse b/c they'll never see your side.)

I'm South African and one idea you encounter a LOT over here is that being gay/ bisexual/ asexual/ transgender/ anything but bog standard is to somehow be 'unAfrican'. I think it's got something to do with the fact that those segments of the population - any population - that tend to be homophobic often overlap with those segments of the population that tend to idealise the past. You know, 'everything was better back when...', that kind of thing. So when you suggest that maybe, just maybe, some of their historical and/or mythological figures either were gay or worshipped/wrote poems about/made art about people who were gay, you're not only pushing their homophobic buttons, you're also screwing with their idea of a glorious, golden past where nothing they didn't approve of ever happened.

yeah Loki is THE pansexual creature for excellence, and he is so lacking in anything resembling marital fidelity that he can really be paired up with anyone... when during the Lokasenna he reminds all the godesses that betrayed their husbands sleeping with him I was cracking xD
