I love the glint coming off Trenton's gun, it makes it look like he means business! The lighting here with the bright amber tones is great and makes me think of all the great western film showdowns. The slanting shade falling across them is great not only because it suggests great heat and dust but also adds to the tension of waiting. Great piece!

lol Definitely!

Thank you!  I always forget to "steampunkify" the weapons in Maelstrom, but not this time.   I'm glad you caught the Western theme!  That's exactly the feel I was going for!

I really, really like this one. The lighting is spectacular, it helps build the suspense. The glow effect on the gun is a nice touch as well... it's like the weapon is starting to charge. Even though it might not be safe, I think Hester will end up enjoying going to work with her dad!

Thank you so much!  I'm super happy with how it turned out (although Hester does not look like Hester for some reason >.<)!  I really love dramatic lighting like this too and hope to use more of it in Volume Two.

lol I think you're right!

That sounds more thrilling than the "take your kids to work" at my workplace.... I mean, all the kids do is watch their parents cashier.

LadyPep In reply to PhoxnSparky [2018-04-17 14:45:59 +0000 UTC]

lol!  It's definitely a lot more exciting than that!  I got to hang out at my parents' classrooms before, and it was a lot more interesting than an average job (though the junior high kids my dad teaches are pretty crazy...).

You’re welcome! I really like what I’ve read of your story so far ^_^. I am considering making a comic myself eventually but I have a ways to go before I can get that going.

LadyPep In reply to Jessmkarts [2018-04-17 15:55:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it took me about a year and a half until I finally settled on the story I wanted to tell!  ;D

Jessmkarts In reply to LadyPep [2018-04-17 17:36:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow! I’ve been working on the story idea for a while (since I was in middle school was when the main character was originally created lol) and have been making changes and developing it the past couple years, but recently combined it with another so I’m having to adjust things to work for both. It’s possible, but it’s caused me to delay it even further. XD

LadyPep In reply to Jessmkarts [2018-04-17 22:00:34 +0000 UTC]

That's typically how all my current stories started out too (90% of them were terrible junior high wolf stories)!   Combining stories/characters is a good way to resolve issues like not knowing what to do about an extra character or certain plotpoint; I can see how that could cause some issues though!

Jessmkarts In reply to LadyPep [2018-04-21 05:37:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think part of it is I just haven’t made time to sit down and focus on it to smooth things out more XD;. Hopefully soon, though. And during or even before that I’m thinking of sharing pieces of information of my story on my DA account and possibly tumble as well we shall see xD. First I think I need to start sharing more art of the characters xD

LadyPep In reply to Jessmkarts [2018-04-21 16:44:49 +0000 UTC]

When I started working on Maelstrom I shared concept art on here to get people interested in the characters (while keeping the plot very vague of course ).  I think that's the best way to build up a fanbase for your story while you're still developing the plot!  Sharing scenes without context is a good idea too--the intrigue!!

Jessmkarts In reply to LadyPep [2018-04-21 19:24:56 +0000 UTC]

Ok. Thanks for the input. ^_^ I wonder if anyone would be really interested in seeing stuff on my end, though. Makes me kinda nervous. Most of the time people seem to unfollow me more than anything, especially here.

LadyPep In reply to Jessmkarts [2018-04-23 18:09:57 +0000 UTC]

No problem!  Yeah, that can be frustrating.  I went through a year of posting stuff and getting no feedback from anyone which made me consider giving up on dA.  I've heard that a good way to get a following is to draw fanart of your favorite things since people will be more familiar with those characters before getting into your own stories; the only downside is that the fanart typically gets more faves/notes than original content, especially on tumblr... :/

Jessmkarts In reply to LadyPep [2018-04-23 20:13:55 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow. Really? I never woulda guessed! Yeah, definitely, it’s so frustrating. I wish I could get more feedback on my stuff...

And yeah, I have definitely noticed that whenever I have drawn fanart xD;;;. It can be pretty annoying lol xD. But for me, drawing fanart isn’t something I like to do constantly. I have to be in a certain mood or drawing something for a friend xD.

LadyPep In reply to Jessmkarts [2018-04-24 19:31:29 +0000 UTC]

I think maybe it was because I had been posting horse art and suddenly switched over to the concept that turned into Maelstrom early that year.  All the horse watchers just boycotted that.

It gets super annoying!  Tumblr is the worst when it comes to crazy fans (one of the reasons why I stopped posting fanart there *shudder*).  Oh yeah, same here!  It comes and goes in phases until the obsession wears off and I remember I have my own characters. lol
