Okay, I HAVE to get this off my chest.Jokes are fun and games when they're harmless. BUT there are some things that just SHOULDN'T be joked about, no matter how you look at it. Unfortunately, the internet loves to joke about serious things, for some reason. Jokes about animal death, suicide etc. These are things that should be taken seriously, not be joked about. Unfortunately, they've pretty much become internet memes now.

Oh really? Look at the "an hero" meme. It started due to a 13 year old boy who committed suicide. Because of this meme, his family suffered a lot. Tell me they're 'harmless' now.

there's a big difference between dark humour and genuinely being rude with your jokes.
joking around doesn't excuse you saying awful things. saying "it's a joke" isn't going to stop you from getting the consequences or backlash from your actions/what you've said, and if you can't handle that, don't make that "joke" in the first place!

This reminds me when I asked my classmates where to I store the mixer, but instead of telling me, one of my classmates decided to do this "fist on the palm" gesture thing and laughed at me, and soon everyone did the same thing. I kept asking them where do I put it, but they kept doing that, to the point where I wanted to harm someone with the mixer and cry my eyes out.
When we were in class, we talked about this and he kept saying that it was "just a joke", but seriously, I didn't find that funny AT ALL. It might be because I just can't handle jokes (not in a "heeehee wow that's funny!", but more in a "I don't like it. Can you not joke around me again please??"), but that didn't feel like it. He did apologise after that, but everyone still insisted that it was "just a joke"
Seriously, schools just excuses these bad behaviours as "nothing seriously bad" and when you call them out for it, they tell you that "you're acting childish" and "they can't fix their own behaviour. They're like that. Leave them be" which are just bad excuses. You can't say a bully will never change its behaviour, of course it can! You just think that they can't, because you think that our personality are set

I'm not disagreeing with you, but what about rape victims that make rape jokes? They would make jokes out of their trauma as a coping mechanism and to feel less bad about it (no, they are not in denial. In fact, making jokes about it could help them feel less damaging and sometimes even move on).Β After all, rape victims don't often get justice (due to numerous reasons such as low self-worth, no police help, ect), so this is mostly their best option on how to deal with their difficult situation.

I agree with this. I've seen many people using this as a excuse. They think we take something or a joke too seriously while in fact it's not true. If something is'nt funny to me,I tell them straight and if they tell me that it's just a joke. Don't take it seriously. Yeah right. I'm not falling for that because it's still is not funny. This happened to me when I told someone that a death thread is not ok,he litterally told me to not take this seriously and he also think that death threads are funny to him. The thing is,people say this because they want to mess with us just to see our reactions.. If only the world could change.
