Description I used a bunch of masks as references and a picture of velvet to get my background right. It's charcoal mainly, but the red is oil pastel. The finished one is in my gallery and is much better.

Really? Maybe I'll enter that one instead. Anyway, thanks again for the help!

hmm well I'm not an expert on charcoal, but I know it's kinda hard to add details to it. I would have used acrylic for this.
right now it's really pretty and i like the touch of red
if you can I would try to add jewels or studs to the mask
the strings look pretty too

Thanks. I wanted jewels on it too, but the oil pastel doesn't show up very well on the charcoal and it's hard to get it off. I could always use a differnt medium or something, but I'm worried about the TAPPS rules. My dad suggested adding glitter (gold or red) to the mask, but to do that I'd have to add an adhesive which would change the category if I'm not mistaken. Then again, I don't really know the rules for TAPPS art. . . And Bez, if I'd used acylics you'd have no idea what it is. I cannot use acylics properly and I hate them anyway. I don't like the flatness of the colors.

you're welcome
that's something you have to think about before you draw. What you will be able to do with the medium you pick
does it matter if it changes the category?
well you could start over now that you know what you want, and do it in watercolor or something. add jewels etc
but i understand if you dont want to start over. I have to do it sometimes though
acrylics are pretty annoying to me right now, but I need to get used to them. they are very useful because you can paint over mistakes
flatness of the colors??

Well, I got a jewel of sorts on. When it comes back from TAPPS I'm adding a rhinestone. No, I never even considered changing mediums because I knew how I wanted it to look when I started. Perhaps I should have used chalk pastels for the red, but i wanted the depth of color of the oil. I had it all planned out and it looks very much like I planned, but oils and charcoals don't seem to enjoy mixing. That's all. Besides, I never cared about the category; I just doubt there's a category that is ok with having rhinestones or glitter in the picture.

well at least it looks how you want
next time, grab a scrap of paper and see how mediums mix
actually i think there are some categories like that! my friend from my old school put feathers and glitter on hers, it looked awesome
