Description About five or six years ago I had thought about working on a new character. My secondary character in City of Heroes, after Lady Liberty, was Cosmic Girl. I had a good background thought up and was ready to go, but I could not do art at all. Doc was kind of reaching his burned out stage on art, so I did something I have only done like 3 times: I commissioned some art. It was good, I even had it posted here on DA for a while but some things about it was very unsatisfying. The artist posted it to his DA page the same day that he emailed me the finished copy, which I thought was very wrong, since I commissioned it and paid for it. Also, I was not totally sure about the character. But after watching Gravity (which is really a great movie) I was re-inspired to try Cosmic Girl again.

There are a lot of things I like about the character and the origin. For her costume, I waffle between "that is so cute!" to "that really looks like someone hit the randomizer button on the costume designer software".

The idea was, basically, an aging female astronaut, flying solo, is sucked through a random wormhole, ends up on the other side of the galaxy in the ruins of her capsule, but with new and amazing powers. Suddenly she can survive in the depths of space, fly at the many times the speed of light, and finds that she can be destroyed...but she will reconstitute herself, as she is now a creature infused with cosmic energy. A friendly alien scientist gives her a few scifi items that allow her to focus the energy within her, so she can send powerful blasts of cosmic energy from her hands. The energy has also rejuvenated her, so although she may be 50 years old, she looks very youthful now...

So that is it. I was not totally happy with the costume, but I am tired of sitting on it and trying to figure out what I am not 100% happy about, so I thought I was give it up and post it here to see what others think.

I really liked the skirt even before I noticed that it's see-thru. Β That makes it all the more amazing. Β Great touch!

Other than the consistent color scheme, this does look like an Icon random creation, but I tend to like it. Particularly for the diaphanous miniskirt that looks like it could be thin satin or PVC vinyl. The fact that it clearly shows her panties make it the best part of costume, IMHO.

Not sure it that was intended for her, as my most inept or wanton heroines would certainly make a point of wearing such a thing. I especially tried making a Sophitia from Soul Caliber outfit in CoX and CO with the thin white miniskirt, being a bit more successful at it in CoX, but neither of them has this nice translucent texture.

Thanks. I think the costume is actually a little (or a lot) dated, especially with the rush on full catsuits that most heroines wear in comics. The skirt kind of screams 80s, but I am still an 80s girl, so maybe that is it.

God i miss City of Heroes.

Sorry to hear about your commission snafu. Β To avoid the issue, you should check to see if the artist is going to post the work himself or not. Β Some have double rates, those that that they walk away from the work and it's all yours to use as you see fit, and those, that still have some claim to it. Β A simple question can clear up a lot of heartache.

I could spend hours in character creation in City of Heroes.Β  I did actually spend way more hours playing than working on my costume, though.Β  The origin story is something so few people seem do with the MMO character.Β  Of all my characters, I think the few with a good origin story are the ones I really remember.Β  Thank you for sharing the origin story and for reminding me that I'm not the only person to play an energy blaster with no pants.

Oh no, my blaster always had her skirt on, although I probably did have one full bodysuit alternate costume. I played COH in beta and although after a while I got bored, it was a lot of fun and I probably made 40 characters.

I was sad to see it go.Β  I had not played much in the last years.Β  Mostly due to my work schedule.Β  I did see most of the content.Β  My friends and I enjoyed the new content my favorite villain (partner) put together when they let you build your own stories.Β  It was fun to see stories that you hadn't seen a hundred times before.Β  I just haven't found a game I like as much.Β  Champion's Online just feels like WoW in a super-suit to me.

ladytania In reply to BarbaraTeebrook [2015-02-14 03:19:54 +0000 UTC]

I tried that too after I finally gave up on COH. I never had much luck with the personal adventures, but it was a good idea. Champions definitely felt much cheesier...

BarbaraTeebrook In reply to ladytania [2015-02-20 01:09:40 +0000 UTC]

The cheese was kind of thick on Champions.Β  Maybe it was the years I had been entrenched in CoH?Β  Sorely missed.Β  I think it gave me a good basis for creating in Second Life, though.Β  All I ever want to make are more colors of super boots and skirts and tights and fun super hero-y things.

ladytania In reply to BarbaraTeebrook [2015-02-21 23:03:12 +0000 UTC]

I agree, Champions felt a lot cheesier, and not a lot of variety. I know CoH got redundant, but different neighborhoods had good feels to them.

I like the looks of the character, but she sounds almost too powerful.Β  With those abilities she will be almost impossible to defeat, and heroines that can't be captured are rather boring.Β

ladytania In reply to Lespion1944 [2015-01-26 03:39:03 +0000 UTC]

I agree. I am not sure what to do. I see your point. It would be her powers have a weakness I have not come up with, or perhaps she is just not as powerful as she appears. Not Supergirl level power perhaps...

Lespion1944 In reply to ladytania [2015-01-26 04:33:06 +0000 UTC]

I am sure you will come up with something.Β  I made one of my heroines vulnerable to chocolate just for a laugh.Β  She could take on any villain, but had to stay away from the confectionery section of grocery stores.

Totally agree here. Β A wonderful character with a very cool origin, but a tad overpowered.
BTW...strong start with the costume. Β One suggestion, with such a strong and positive heroine, maybe her outfit could do with a bit more fabric. Maybe a short sleeved leotard with a military style collar utilizing the same materialΒ and elbow length glovesΒ instead of a tank top Β  Something proper and stately. Β Keep theΒ skirt, though!!!

I looked at other tops, something keeping the bare midriff, but I do not really have anything else that I liked or that fit very well. I like the idea of the top you made.

I love the design, how she has the gems on her wrists, neck and forehead. The only thing I would change is how high the skirt is along her waist. Does she have some kind of weaknesses or something, cause she seems slightly OPed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ladytania In reply to pizzanerd1 [2015-01-26 03:33:52 +0000 UTC]

That could be, but I am not sure what would be a good weakness.Β  Any thoughts? I do see your point. That is part of the fun of Ultra Woman, she has ways of being defeated, but Cosmic Girl does seem a little overpowerful...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pizzanerd1 In reply to ladytania [2015-01-26 04:12:57 +0000 UTC]

Well the usual stuff like drugs, hypno and sharp blows to he head work. Maybe removing the gems or something from her body will weaken her.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ladytania In reply to pizzanerd1 [2015-01-26 04:29:45 +0000 UTC]

Removing her items makes sense, like the tiara which I had designed to allow her to focus her inner energies...losing something like that keep her from focusing her energies...hmmm?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pizzanerd1 In reply to ladytania [2015-01-26 05:09:38 +0000 UTC]

I thought doing something simple that would make sense. In the wonder woman stories she was powerless when her magic belt was stolen from her. Of course she could be effected by magic, a big brute with a wrecking ball in hand, or your common thief with a bottle of chloroform

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ladytania In reply to pizzanerd1 [2015-01-27 23:40:43 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking that she is not quite THAT powerful. I mean, low grade supergirl powers with a nasty energy blast. So a big goon with a wrecking ball would be too powerful if she got in too close. She just has to be faster than him. But if defeated, and her tiara removed, there goes her ability to channel her energy into strength or blasts...?
