Today is ~vandonovan 's birthday, and I made him this thing! Two/Jamie is one of our mutual favorite things, and he has been sort of fabulous, so I thought he deserved a THING.This is that THING.
There needs to be more Two and Jamie in the world.
Doctor Who belongs to the BBC and all.

I am currently planning a Two/Jamie fanfic and have already begun to write it, but is very slow going since life has decided to come crashing down on my head and I'm absolutely terrified about mucking up Jamie's accent. *whimper*

Really? Not to be combative, but sincerely asking. My impression of slash on the internet was that it was a spectrum from cotton candy sweet to hardcore fucking and it was sort of heavily polarized in those extremes, haha. I vastly prefer the sweeter stuff at any rate, so I'm glad you like it!

All I generally see is what comes/came through to my inbox (Primarily Sherlock and used to be Harry Potter. Let's just say that any kind of pairing, slash or het, got out of hand in Harry Potter) and from most I was not too impressed. You're right, there is an entire spectrum that tends to be polarized. I love 2/Jamie, it's like Nutella with extra sugar. Don't worry, it's a good conversation. I think it depends on the fandom. Sherlock is usually pretty fluffy, so is Doctor Who unless it's Doctor/Master (Dear God I need eyebleach). Sorry for the long reply!

Two and Jamie is a particularly sweet slash pairing. You get some that travel the whole spectrum much more evenly, like Harry Potter where every kind of fluff and hardcore kink imaginable has been done, but Two and Jamie tends to be very sweet. I think that's what attracted me to it initially, really. At the time that I was really into it, it was exactly what I needed. Doctor/Master appealed to me for like a span of 30 days and then fell squarely into the Do Not Want category for a variety of reasons, but again, you're right, that's where I see the most of the non-sweet stuff, and I think for good reason, since there is nothing inherently sweet about their relationship, regardless of how you interpret it.
As for more of it, I don't know. I was very involved with it about two years ago and did a veritable mountain of art for them, but a big blow up about it sort of put me off of being heavily in the fandom since. It's always a possibility - I've been known to get back into things - but for now, it's looking like it's Deep Space Nine and angry bleeding original character art on the menu, since that's more along the lines of where my needs and interests lie artistically. Of course, someone could come along and commission more from me, and then it would be up here, but for now I can't say when there will be more. I did one recent image of them for New Year's and I feel guilty that it's gotten people all excited. :<

That's what I like about it too, it's just so sweet. Mostly, I think that people come up with pairings because they see (usually imaginary) sexual tension. I have an inability to see such things because I'm bad with emotions, but the moment I saw Jamie clinging to the Doctor I realized that it was possible. I don't see Doctor/Master or Draco/Harry because there's no comradery, no reason for them to like each other. My favorite pairing for Doctor Who is 9/Rose, but then I got into Doctor/Jack, which is usually a huge pile of fluff except for some manips which are just disturbing...
Most slash I see kind of leans towards fanservice, fulfilling the perverted fantasies of fangirls. On the het side, one deviant will not stop flooding this site with her OC/Snape "art" that is just pornographic. I pretty much left the Harry Potter fandom, partially because its fans can be incredibly rude and partially because the fanart it so contrived and often disrespectful to the actors when based off of the films.
I understand about moving on to other things, it's always good to keep an open mind. And teaspoon. I've never seen DS9, but then again I've been a little too obsessed with Doctor Who to finish TNG. Sometimes all I want to produce are photos (my main form of art), and other times all I can do is draw Doctor Who. Habits and ideas, along with workflows, fluctuate. Your original art is incredible. You're definitely one of my favorite illustrators here.
I don't want a pairing name either! I don't care for them. I just say I like Nine/Rose, Eleven/River, Two/Jamie, Eight/Grace, Thomas from Downton Abbey/the Luggage from Discworld (Okay, the last is a joke!)I'm just an organizational freak.

Yeah, I have to admit that even with pairings that aren't as sweet as Two and Jamie, I generally need to see some actual fondness or something before I start thinking of it as a possible romantic pairing. I'm not a sexual person, so I'm not really into the 'hate-sex' sort of pairings, which just seem to function on 'The author made sure we know that these characters hate each other! It actually means the opposite!' Nor am I in the 'well, they would just look hot together!' camp. Not that I don't think that anything can be done well, but those are just not really my cup of tea. Like, I definitely enjoy Five and Turlough, and that started out with attempted murder, even. But there was some actual joking and fondness there that I kind of thought was a fascinating backdrop against attempted murder. Especially when Turlough really didn't want to do any killing in the first place.
oh dear god manips I really can't handle photomanips as slash fanart. They make me so embarassed for everyone involved, holy shit. I know logically that some of themn actually do require quite a bit of skill, but they still look so uncanny valley and so freakishly weird and unsettling to me and ahhh i get shivers just thinking about it. I'm all about the drawn fanart instead.
Annnd the fanservice, yeah, wow. I guess I see now what you were talking about when you said you see less of the sweet stuff. When I think about it, yeah, there is an awful lot of manips and fanservice going on everywhere. I definitely am of the opinion that as long as no one is being harmed, they should do whatever they like, but I'm not a fan, certainly. And OC/canon character art is really hard for anyone to give a shit about for anyone but the creator, I can't imagine that porn is actually interesting anyone but the artist.
But, like we mentioned, obsessions, passions and directions take us where we go, so for us it's taking us to Doctor Who, or DS9, or Photography, or blood and gore. She's... drawn to Snape/OC porn. That was a sentence I wasn't prepared to type today. Either way, it's nice that there are places to go in fandom where it's less fanservice, manips and OC porn and more things that we're into!

I'm not sexual either, and that may be why I don't come up with many pairings outside of the canon (I consider canon to basically be scripture). 10/Jack has potential because the were friends (okay, so the Doctor abandoned him. BUT.) and the Doctor changed Jack greatly. I am bombarded with so many manips of them naked, it makes me sorry I even like the pairing. I think it's disrespectful to the actors, no matter how much effort you put into it.
From spending too much time on Tumblr, I think what happens is people pick two guys and start blogging about all the eyefucking and how they ship them like FedEx. (The Two/Jamie fandom doesn't need manips or imagined sexual tension, we have clinging and handholding!) OCs tend to be audience surrogates, only for the creator. And you're right. Porn is the equivalent of the slides you took on vacation. No one but you wants to see them.
I respect people when they do what suits them as long as it doesn't hurt others. This user, though, is very rude when confronted about anything. She also traces, and someone I know called her out on that and she was extremely rude. Which is terrible, because Josie is really nice. She did get banned from a few groups, though, so I no longer see her work.
Your original work is lovely! I hate it when people pigeonhole artistic output. Keep up the fabulous work! Do whatever you want to do. It is nice to be in a place where you can see what interests and doesn't make you uncomfortable.

Everything about this picture makes me get a huge grin on my face. I ship these two more than most any other Doctor Who pairing. The coloring in this is so very well done, the details are eye-catching, and what I really am impressed with is the emotion conveyed by their expressions. You can tell these two love and care about each other very much. Beautiful job!

... so you'd laugh; I was watching Dr Who Confidential and they had footage from the various Doctors in it -- and not only did I nearly squee aloud when some of it showed Two, but I was craning my head waiting eagerly for them to show Jamie (they didn't, the rotters).
