Folks over 18 are randomly called to serve on a jury for a trial, if they're needed. It's your 'civic duty'. Thankfully, the day I was called in to be there, they didn't need anybody. I just had to show up at the crack of dawn and sit in a room with a bunch of other people for 4 hours doing nothing.

No, not that kind of serving Serving on a jury means you have to show up for all the days of the trial and hear the testimony and then decide if they're guilty or not.

Oh I see. And your opinion is decisive when you do jury duty? I mean, in the hypothetical case that your vote was the only one left in a tie, is it decisive? Supposing that you know nothing about trials and stuff...

Well, there are 12 people altogether on a jury, and all 12 of you would have to come to an agreement. But yeah, it would be legally binding.

Heh when I first looked at this picture I thought he was doing the trekkie salute...I thought that would be kinda weird to see Snape doing but after seeing him as a Jedi the other day...well nothing you do could suprise me anymore!

Reminds me of the scene in Book 6. I can't say which scene, because people will kill me. But he's sitting at a certain table, and he waves. And looks smug.
