Description Under the moon, the road that ran from the edge of her forest
gleamed like water, but when she stepped out onto it,
away from the trees, she felt how hard it was, and how long.
She almost turned back then; but instead took a deep breath
of the woods air that still drifted to her, and held in her mouth
like a flower, as long as she could.
The Last Unicorn - Peter S Beagle

The Last Unicorn is very special to me...very much my favorite book and movie of them all. I've been working on this drawing for a while...a practice in patience just as much as a labor of love. I only wish i had a scanner big enough to scan the whole blasted thing. as it is, my scanbed is only slightly larger than 8.5x11 and this picture is 11x17. You only get a glimpse of the trees that took me forever to do. but! Once I get an appropriate compilation scanned and glued together I will most likely reupload it. *^_^* I was so excited to get it done though that I had to upload it tonight. Please fullview!!

Update: I was able to get a decent full scan put together and have uploaded that image in place of the original.

that really does have a reminiscent feel of the last unicorn..

it's also a very special book and movie to me too. it's strange to find such happiness and understanding through such a sad and bluntly truthful story.

It really is. the beauty of the story is so simple and seems so effortless...i can only imagine the amount of work that went into its creation.

Wow.... I am so awful at backgrounds and dislike doing them so much that this is just awesome. The atmosphere and sheer amount of detail are mind boggling @.o I can see why it would have taken so long, and I'd say it was deffinatly worth it. I loove the shapes that make up the trees. +fav! ^^

thank you so much for the comment and ! wagh this thing took FOREVER. The tree on the left was the biggest lump to get over...after I did that the rest of them pretty much flowed right out. It's just a matter of figuring out what you want to do and having the resolve to finish it. I almost always poop out on a pic if it takes longer than i want to spend. backgrounds are beyond me unless I've had some spectacular idea brewing for ages. Usually I get stuck trying to figure out what to do with the white space surrounding my finished character because i don't devote half as much time thinking about the surrounds as i do the subject

thank you so much! I've been rereading the book recently and prematurely preparing myself for the movie that will never come they pushed it back to 2006 a while ago...and still haven't announced who will play Amalthea and Lir.

totally. i don't think I've ever followed the preproduction of a movie for this long. but i'm sure it'll be worth the wait. I'm also quite eager to get my hands on a copy of the new short story Peter S Beagle released...it's touted at the sequel to the Last Unicorn, but things i've read say it's more along the lines of a story set in the same world? I don't know. It was announced back in Feb-May and is going to be published in the October issue of Fantasy Sci-fi magazine this year. weeeee I can't wait!!!
