Hahahahaha, weeeeell, she really acts that way, because she doesn't want to ever admit to caring for/being dependent on someone else, even though Salim is definitely doing favors for her.  It's kind of hard-wired into her never to show any kind of weakness or attachment to anyone, or to ever really trust anyone, to the point where she kind of firmly believes in it, too.  Even when Salim dies she doesn't know how to feel regret or sorrow; she only ends up getting angry with him.
