Description 18. January 1871 - Unification of Germany

You know, in the end, the unfication was without Austria, so he is angry and what's Prussia holding is a baby Germany. The background is Versailles, because declaration of unification was in France. Their clothes are inspired by Wilhelm I. and Franz Joseph I.

Thisi my picture for Czech Hetalia calendar. :3 Well, even the picture isn't bright and the declaration was in January, I took it on June (How selfish! D: But I have a birthday on this month...).

There is a previewof all the pictures in the calendar: [link]

OMG OMG OMG! (or should I say "Lieber Gott im Himmel!" )

I adore this picture because not only does it show Austria and Prussia dressed in my favorite style of garb (those splendid 19th century aristocratic uniforms with the medals, epaulets, sashes, etc.), but it also reminds me precisely of what first drew me into Hetalia...

Several years ago now I was looking at random Youtube crap (as you do), and I happened to notice that one one of the videos I watched it showed a related video on the side which caught my eye because it had what was obviously two anime-style bishounen dressed almost exactly like this.  The title of the video was "Kaito & Gackpoid - Seven Weeks War "...

Now at the time I had no idea what a Kaito or Gackpoid is, and the only thing I knew of called "Seven Weeks War" was this obscure little war between Austria and Prussia in 1866 which almost no Americans know anything about.  And surely they wouldn't make an anime music video about that!

Well, that's exactly what they did!  Of course, the characters in the video are Austria and Prussia from Hetalia, singing at each other (using the vocaloid program characters Kaito & Gackupo) about the causes of the 7 Weeks War, and the question of "Greater" versus "Lesser" Germany!  I was totally stunned, and excited to see so many of the comments on the video were obviously from teenage high school students saying things like "This video got me into Hetalia, and Hetalia helped me pass my history test!"  I had to find out more about whatever this anime was that could get teenagers, moreover American teenagers, to voluntarily go and read more about European history!

And thus did I start putting together my Hetalia History panels for anime conventions, which led in its turn to contributing history notes to the first Funimation Hetalia DVD and the recent volumes of Tokyopop manga!

I recently was notified that my panel submission have been accepted for the next "Project A-Kon" convention in Dallas in early June, and I will be presenting Hetalia History at that con for the first time.  I'd love to include this pic in my collection of history-based fan-art that I usually include in the panel discussion!

Hello! I am really glad you like my picture! And I bet the Seven weeks war video was the key point for a lot of Hetalia fans. I remember it too like it was yesterday when I was new to Hetalia and found this video (+ Seven years war), never heard about Vocaloid and immediately fell in love with Prussia and Austria. These two were my favorite characters since then, as well as their history. As a citizen of a state ruled by Austria for hundreds of years I knew well about our and Austrian history, but Prussia was mentioned only a few times and now no one remembers they learned something about it at school, which is sad. I graduated high school long before Hetalia was famous, so it did not help me with history class, but it was a big help for many of my younger friends, as you said, which was awesome. They began being enthusiastic in their (well, only history) classes and for me it meant that I started visiting various cities like Vienna, Berlin, Postdam and places connected with Austrian-Prussian battles, all for the sake of my sudden interest in their history incited by an anime, whoa. 'The Hetalia era' is now gone here, but I still think back on it because it was a good time and I am glad there is still Hetalia programme in America, so yes, of course you can use my picture for that. Wish you luck with your panel!

This picture is really great, I´m happy someone thought about this day

Tho usually I imagine 1871 more like Germany becomes an adult finally (a real nation, not a federation of splittered states),
than being a newborn^^ But everyone can interpret as he thinks of course, just saying what I think
