I did this work because of the catastrophic events in Japan. It should animate you to help Japan in any way, even if it is a prayer or a small donation. Project their thoughts, imagine how they go through this situation at the moment. In the first place you should not forget the victims who died in this disaster. My condolences to all concerned..~ best wishes for Japan, from Germany. LakoDesigns

PS: I know, this boy probably isn't japanese, Im sorry. But the way he is looking in the camera matches perfect with my concept of the work. Also sorry for the snow on his shoes, I've seen it!

Hi! Your piece caught my attention as soon as I saw it, because it such an interesting piece. This is one of my first critiques on Devientart, so I must apologize if I don't follow the norm. Also, I hope I do not sound overly critical or mean, I am just trying to point out what I think can be improved upon in order to help you become a better artist. I'd like to say first off that I think your piece is quite good. It took me a moment however to determine what the piece was actually about, there is a lot going on, and it is easy to get lost.
I gave you a 4.5 in the category of vision, because of the initial confusion. After examining it, I was instantly aware of the theme, and how the picture is related. I have been through 2 hurricanes, so the debris in the background is something I know dearly. In general the contrast between the boy and the background is very effective in transmitting the theme of chaos and destruction that impacted the ordinary lives of the Japanese.
I gave you a 4.5 in the category of originality because it is fairly unique. However, I did not give it a 5 for two reasons. Firstly, the white text at the top with the dark shadow is seen often in this type of work. Secondly while the overlaid light effects are definitely unique, that are rather invasive, and lead me away from the theme at first. Other then that, the piece is very unique and original.
I gave you a 4.0 in the category of Technique for several reasons. Firstly, I did like the overall use of photo manipulation, however, the large purple light beam overlay was too much. It drew my attention away from the central message, and was detrimental to the work. I liked the watermark of the child however, it looks good, and adequately aids the message. Also, It took me a moment to realize that the art around the child was added. I was not sure if it was a backpack or rubble or something else, however upon closer examination, I found it to be a beautiful addition. You could have increased its importance in the image to a beneficial effect.
Lastly, I gave you a 4.0 in the category of impact. The main reason that I did not give you a 5 is because of the initial confusion. After examining it, it certainly has a significant impact, but it can be improved. Also, while I understand your theme, and how the image relates to it, there is some uncertainty as to how clearly the image portrays your message. A greater clarity of the rubble surrounding the child might help this, but over all it is still excellent. It is a very good image, and nicely contrasts the innocence of the child, with the destruction surrounding him.
Hopefully I have adequately critiqued your work in a way that will help you improve your work. It is a good design and is definitely original.
