Description
My first snail shot. I liked the lighting on this a lot, though I wish the front end of the snail was a little more in focus and better placed. All in all, though, I really like it.

Excellent shot. Is that on the hood of a car? As far as the depth of field is concerned, it still came out really well, especially considering you were only at f5. For subjects that small I usually use no less than f8, but then it gets tricky because there's never enough light

That's exactly why I used f5...the lighting conditions were poor, as it was near sunset after a storm. I also had a screaming, whining toddler strapped into his car seat in the car, ready to go home. I saw the snail on the leaf, picked it all up, put it on the car, took like five shots of him before my son completely melted down.
On a stranger note, I had another photographer pinpoint this snail's location just by the coloring of its shell. I found the snail near a waterfall that originates in a hot spring with lots of mineral deposits and such, so I am wondering if its environment causes it to have such unique coloring?
