I knew the the basic 3ds Max use before moving on to ZBrush but nothing beyond that. I think it's good to have at least some 3d modeling knowledge but sculpting is quite different from traditional modeling. Though if you're planning to do lowpoly models at some point, then other programs come in handy.Β

I did more research and found out that a lot of really talented people use both Zbrush and Modo. So I got Zbrush for modeling which is great because I have experience modeling clay in RL. I'm just trying to sculpt characters as realistic as possible for my own personal interest in creating something beautiful, like a photo-realistic angel for instance. I know it's going to take me a while to get to that level, but work like yours is pretty inspirational!

Some use Modo, some use other programs. You can do amazing sculpts without them (especially since ZBrush has now simple lowpoly tools), but extra programs do help with the workflow in some aspects. Modo is good since it's relatively cheap compared to Max and essentially does the same thing.Β

Have you drawn the blueprints (Top, Sides, bottom) by yourself?
Amazing work.

I never draw blueprints, I always just sculpt what's in my head.Β

Beautiful. I can really feel the power and elegance coming off it. Is it inspired by the battle suits of the game Warframe by any chance?

Good mech design, there is a sense of power and mechanical, metal muscle to it. An almost sense of thrusting out its chest in pride and daring or perhaps more appropriately, warning, any to not to challenge its authority.Β

Very well done; the slight DOF on the render is a nice touch too. This is the type of work I strive for.

Look up some hardsurface tutorials from youtube. It's different from organic sculpting but not necessary harder to learn.

holy cow I can't stress enough how cool this looks. All of the shapes and angles are pleasing to look at. Doesn't even matter that it doesn't have arms or legs because that thing is BAD ASS. I really could go on and on about how awesome this is but I'll keep it short. Keep up the good work buddy!
