Description

I should've known better......

After my weekly journal post I got to thinking that it really 'should not' take that long to see how well Blender 2.8b would do on one of my .blend files of Star.    My curiosity got the better of me

So I did a quick install of tonite's Blender build (they currently have nightly builds, the Blender software updates are happening that frequently).

Windows 10 first whined about my running a unknown app and refused to run it- I forced it to run.    When Blender came up I loaded Pose 2 of Star (complete with armature).     Blender (or possibly Win10?) complained about Python scripts being blocked for security and asked if I was sure... YES I WAS SURE.....

You see the results in the screenshot.   It seems to work ok, but since the beta is being changed/debugged so much I'm not holding my breath that it will stay that way.    Unfortunately Blender themselves announced that the projected 'final' release of 2.8 is currently unknown.

At least I now know that for the most part I'll probably be ok without doing a major redo of my current Blender files.  However I'd be better off waiting for that final release before doing anything new in Blender.

I read that they are aiming for late spring release.  So May or June?  Who knows.

It does look nice so far though.

Well they went public with the beta late last year- I would think they'd want to give ~3-4 months testing 'just to be sure' before doing the final release.      I've noticed that the recent updates at least have less and less new scripts/exes, so I consider that a good sign.

In fact, I've already been seeing finished work done on 2.8b so I'd say the major features at least are pretty stable.    I'm planning on diving into it myself here sometime in March (at least that's the plan!

P.S.   Just found out that they're planning on releasing 'final' Blender 2.8 this July or thereabouts.
