With the news of Monty’s passing, I’d love to take a moment to remember him and the chances I had to meet with him.

I had enjoyed RWBY since the trailers started coming out. I kept thinking that the world, the characters, everything was different, new and exciting.

Without much information, I started drawing pictures of the characters and gradually moved to doing more digital art after been a traditional artist. It was random retweets and JeffWilliams commenting on my art that made me want so bad to do more for them.

In 2014 I was lucky enough to get a table at ALA and took some of my RWBY prints, stickers and everything, with. I do admit, I was rather happy to be able to not only introduce people to it, but provide merchandise for people who were already as big of fans as I was.

I was walking outside with a friend, stretching our legs from sitting in the AA, and I noticed someone as I walked past them. Stopping, I squinted and sheepishly asked :

"Are you…Monty?”

He looked at me curiously and I tried to get over my fear of talking to strangers by saying who I was on twitter and the RT Side. He lit up and nodded saying he’d seen my stuff. I told him I was in the AA with some RWBY things I would love to give him and he said he’d stop by.

We smiled, nodded, parted ways and when my friend and I got inside I nearly collapsed from just awestruck and nervousness. I just talked to the man who helped me learn how to use digital media better and better.

Sunday came and I needed to change and finish packing to leave for Home. My phone rings and my bf told me that Monty was at the table looking for me. Barely saying anything, I ran out of the room and down 4 flights of stairs and ran back to the AA.

I got to meet him and we talked. He asked if I would be doing more drawings because he would like them or to see them and I just nearly cried. I’d never had someone actually WANT to see things I could produce.

I gave him everything I could that I had on my table. Buttons, bags, pins, prints, everything and he gave me a “keep it up” motto.

Ridiculously excited; I went home and quickly started working on other things which then I was asked by RTSideQuest if I would like to do art for their Charity Auction later that year. I was also approached by Ailsa and asked the same of her charity drive. I had no idea that people actually…saw me now. Monty had given me courage to keep pushing hard at digital media; to draw, create, and watch something that consumed me and made me a better artist.

At RTX, I had so may people recognize my art. I’ve had people buy my prints and asked him to sign them which, may seem silly, but to consider my art worthy enough for the creator to sign was something that brought me to tears.

If you’re reading this, please, never, ever stop creating things. Put your passion and love in to your projects and in to everything you do because that is what Monty would want for everyone.
