Biography: Katherine (Kathy) Santaro was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother is an immigrant from Italy, and she met Kathy's father while he was abroad. Kathy's father is a member of the American Navy, and she grew up listening to his stories of life on the open sea and countries that sat across the ocean.

Kathy idolized her father, she believed that he was strong enough to travel anywhere in the world, and wished one day to travel the seas by his side.

During the crisis of Manhattan, her father was called to duty for the first time since Kathy was born, but before leaving, he left Kathy his old Sailor cap. Unfortunately, after the crisis, her father's ship and all the sailors on it went AWOL.

Unable to accept that her father is gone, she starts thinking of a way to find him, and decides that the only way to do that is to become as strong as he is. At school, she starts picking fights, first it was with bullies to her friends, but then it escalated to kids at higher grade levels, leading more often than not to her getting injured in some way.

Desperate to get Kathy to stop picking fights at school, her mother signs her up for boxing lessons, which she took to with with gusto. Determined to become the strongest she can be, she quickly rises through the ranks of her class and soon earns a position in the Little Cup Boxing Tournament in Seattle.
