Really nice pic.
It reminds me a kind of flamencoΒ΄s dress.

well assuming you're doing this in Photoshop and the background and girl are on seperate layers.

Make a new layer above the background, use the Lasso to draw the shadow selection, then use a large soft brush to paint the black (select the Black from the image so it matches) BUT use Multiply Mode at about 20% to fill in one pass, then work a little at a time to get the darkest areas to blend by layering brush strokes. Deselect and as a final touch you can use the Eraser with a some waht large soft brush at 40% to soften the outer edges if it needs it, use the outer edge of the brush soe the erasing is soft edged.

If it needs more adustment change the layers Opacity or change the Layer to Multiply Mode and change the Opacity, whatever works best. Multiply Mode is nice as it keep a bit more detail showing than just painting with color.

The main thing is to shape the the shadow and not have it be all black.

A little practice, you'll get it.

well.. i am doing it almost like that but i use gaussian blur and then change the opacity... anyway this shadow i took from the stock photo actually (i did change it a little) so it is actual the shadow without photoshop.
But i do admit i am not so good in shadowcasting.. that is why i am taking critique seriously as i want to grow in digital manipulation. I do have to confess that i am kind of sick of women in long dresses though haha. Well this photo is a little different.. the dress was not so gothic. Don t get me wrong i love the art on DA but sometimes i wish there was more variety

I used to use a gaussian blur method, but it's too limited.

"this shadow i took from the stock photo actually (i did change it a little) so it is actual the shadow without photoshop".

Often it's better to make your own shadow as the shadow needs to follow a mix of the shadows on the figure and the shadow and light source in the background.
