What a visit. I took 9 (!!) pictures today, that's definitively my all-time low. It was rainy - well no, that's an understatement. It pelted with rain, so Tiefenschaerfe and me had to take shelter inside a little house on a playground, with tiny chairs and everything

Where was that taken? I live in Quebec and we have lots of moose and deers. For some reason this in the last years I've seen a lot of does (females) alone or with her fawns but no moose or male bucks

Oh I'm jealous, I visited Canada for the first time last year and it was so so so awesome. This was taken in a wildlife park in Germany, the deer isn't a wild one. They are caged in a large enclosure with a forest and creek and the male one's have names given by the staff of the park. It's not like taking photos of wild deer

Yeah I've seen many footage of those harem and the incredible battles the males undergo to win or lose them. Sometimes lasting for hours and I've heard stories from hunters that they sometimes find skeletons of males with their antlers locked together. Suggesting they mangled together during a fight and died of exhaustion trying to dislodge themselves.
The natural wildness might make the observing a more serene experience better as far as end results of the photos. their quality and the details you can snap the captivity setting might be to your advantage, you can take many shots and angles and the animals are relaxed, used to humans. In a wild forest setting the elk would hear you way before (maybe smell too ) way before you'd see them. They're also much more skittish and nervous from being shot at during hunt season for generations
