I DID IT! I actually colored something on photoshop! and I actually colored something when I said I would! xD (and right before school starts again)Anyways, guys this is important! This is my first ever full scale effort into CGing. Yeah, I tried to follow some tutorials, but in the end, goodness I'm a beginner at this; it's a bit tricky. But, I'm really really proud, even if it is kindof bland.
Ok, if possible, I'd like critique. I've got a long way to go in the ways of CGing. I've never done backgrounds before, so you guys are really lucky to have color x) sorry!
So a couple things:
1) I used a base color, and then flat out added shades to it. I will try blending in the future, and more complex tone and shades and lighting and stuffs. This is really simple to start out.
2) Aerith's wings are a different style from the rest of the coloring because my dad suggested I try it out. Should I revert back to just lineart and color?
3) Metal and water I have no clue how to do. I guess.. texture-y stuff is tough, I will have to learn that later on. If you have any tips please let me know!
4) BACKGROUNDS. Now that I'm coloring...it looks like imma have to start doing them? What's a good way to start out? Are there any "easy/fast" backgrounds I can whip up?
Finally, I might think of this as (ooh, this is my first time saying it...) a WIP! if you guys think I should fix something, give me suggestions, and I'll do my best to fix it.

Okay...hm. I'll start out with my initial thoughts:
You did a really good job with the coloring on the guy on the left (I don't know these people's names ;_
Aeris's wings are nicely colored, but in terms of the bigger picture and composition, it would probably help more if it weren't so blurred. Bigger wings would also be more noticeable, but that's just a drawing thing.
As for metal, metal has more glare than normal fabric and so adding more white/silver in the places where the light shines is crucial (this is also important with the light source). Water is reflective but in a distorted way; you would be able to see Cloud's legs in the water, albeit not exactly in its original shape. You would also be able to see Aeris's and the other guy's reflections on the water. In that case, you would have to add the same colors you used to color them onto the water, but in lighter tones.
You did a great job with Cloud and Aeris's poses, but the other guy's pose seems very unnatural. He's standing with his chest entirely towards us, his arm reaching toward Aeris, and his head turned towards them. If you do his pose yourself, it's very stiff and awkward. It would be better to turn him slightly so it looks more natural.
Uhm, other than that, I applaud you for your first time! This is very good for your first time, and with a mouse too.

YAY! CARRIE FINISHED IT!!! i am very pleased to say that i really really really like it. although, cloud's head(chin area) looks a little off. i can imagine it in that position but without the shading there. zane's hair's shading looks kinda funny. aeris' wings could be a little bigger, and not so blurry?
yea. so there is what i have to say. and like you, i will be posting something up...... sometime soon........ hopefully.

Ok, this is long, but I tried to put in some of my constructive criticism into it to help you along. But before I do, I just wanted to say I really do like this, and it was especially good for your first attempt. Photoshop is a very daunting program to begin to use to CG, but you've managed to pick up some tricks.
I especially love Aeris' wings, I just wish they were a tad bigger (or just the picture bigger) because I can't see their beauty as well as I wanted to. 
I would have loved to see a background, no matter how simple it would be, it would add a lot to this picture (did you kinda want to get the hang of things first before trying this out?). I thought maybe you were planning on it because of Zane's kinda awkward foot position XD.
Oh, and another thing about Zane, I thought it would be an extra touch to add in some furrowed eyebrows or something to make him look a little more pained to see Aeris go to Cloud, to give his character a little more depth.
The anatomy and position of Aeris and Cloud was very well done though, it looks extremely realistic.
Lastly, the water could maybe have more depth in the color range? it seems pretty monotone and you're usually really good at shading (like Cloud's shirt, which I LOVE by the way)
Sorry if this was overwhelming at all, you can take all of it or none of it, I just wanted to present you with my take on it.
I expect to see more works like this and better from you soon!

Carrie this is so amazing! I am totally in awe. I mean, you can't tell at all that this is your first piece. I love it so much! Wow, I hope I can do as well as you when I finally get to working with photoshop. I wish I had critiques for you, but you're ahead of me in the digital world, haha. Well, awesome job and I hope you get the help you need too!

hahaha wow!! dang man thank you lots! but dude, you do things with pencils that best me in every possible xD Yeah, that's what i meant in my journal..getting the most out of everything, I mean i really admire how you color using color pencils only! it's amazing. But anyway, thanks again
