Description Ave Satanas Luciferi

You know the drill. Every once in a while, another portrait from me for Him is due. If you've been around and if you remember, I've already drawn a portrait using the same reference before, except it was done purely in graphite. But it's been years, my skills have grown and I have moved a lot more towards color pencil now. I still love the simplicity of graphite, but I wanted to do this also in color and see how well I can do. So it has been on my mind for a while. I wanted to manage for the Winter Solstice and His Day, but things have been rough still and I managed to merely start it a day before. Then I thought, I should still be able to complete it within Yule (that is to say before New Year). That didn't happen either, and I eventually decided it's more important I do the drawing well, with all the care and attention it deserves, than complete it by whatever date. And indeed, I took my time, I drew when I felt truly inspired to draw and did not rush. And I dare say it was well worth it.

So.... this is my take on the small portrait but famous of Him available on His page on JoS.... once again. But this time I kept zealously close to the original (face- and expression-wise), except just.... in more detail and well, with my own vision and feeling of Him. I did change the pose, the hair and the robe, and added missing details, particularly on the neck. Oh did I have fun with the robe though, I looked up drapery tutorials, classical drawings and art, I am far from there, but I learned a lot while drawing it. Also.... I drew Him without wings because this is how He typically appears. I changed the lighting and colors a bit too, which is especially tangible in the hair. Had quite some interesting experience with the ghost colors of reflected light too, I keep learning how to do those. It's much more complex to accomplish color pencils than in the other media I usually use. But I try.

The rest is just a lot of work and dedication, and for Him, I do that absolutely with pleasure. Is why I can spend twice as much time drawing His portrait and still not really feel it. After I'm done I typically miss working on it.... That last is less pronounced now that I still deal with burnout and I simply relish looking at the complete drawing, but working on it was still a very beautiful sensation.

Detailed information about Satan in the description: Lucifer 02.11

I won't repeat myself, I encourage you to go read about Him. It's beyond difficult to express my love for Him, I do that through art, I absolutely need it, and I don't think words can quite contain what I feel when I look at these images of Him (as well as the original reference), but.... I hope it is somehow there for you to perceive as well. I hope His Spirit and energy is there and tangibly so, as pure and ineffably beautiful as it feels to me. That's all I can wish to give you, and perhaps the most important thing too.

Previous art of Him by me:
Father Satan
Lucifer Divine
Lucifer

Also, art of Him in non-human form:
Guardian of Life
The Ancient Dragon

Also, gorgeous art of Him by my best friend:
The Spirit of Light and Darkness
The Ancient Cosmic Spirit

Needless to say this is not the last portrait of Him that I draw. But I believe that so far, it is the best one. Having a good reference helps big time, I now dream of the time I will be able to pull a drawing like this without one. Safe for how I see Him myself, that is. Oh yeah, and I keep trying to show in visual art what is felt in energy - why He is, in so many languages, called Lightbringer. At least the literal reason.

Reference is from His page on JoyOfSatan.org
