Turbo gets a lot of stick, and in my opinion, FAR too much! I mean, it's no worse than Samurai and Megaforce combined.

The urban legend that Turbo nearly killed Power Rangers is complete horseshit!

It's true that the first half, but that was from a two-year ratings decline that had been stuck on the franchise since Mighty Morphin' Season 3 (Zeo would've gotten big ratings, but Big Bad Beetleborgs was getting all the attention in late '96). But, after the change of cast in "Passing the Torch" happened, the second half of Turbo started getting good ratings, which was good news for Saban and the Power Rangers franchise.

So overall, is Turbo the worst Power Rangers season of all time? Nope, not even close, because for me, it's Mystic Force by a fucking mile. I mean, like, Turbo is far better than Mighty Morphin' Season 3 for example, and it's similar enough to Mighty Morphin' Season 2 in terms of episode quality. Y'know, it's a perfectly acceptable season. On paper, Turbo sounds like it's horrendous, maybe because of the new faces, or the massive swell of negativity, but I found Turbo quite easy to watch, especially the second half. After my two pence worth, I don't want people to be like "Oh my god, he's saying it's not the worst Power Rangers season ever! Fuck this guy!" because Turbo's maybe like, the fifth worst Power Rangers season ever, y'know, but it's not the worst, because that honour goes to Mystic Force, like I said before.

That's one topic I would like to discuss.

If you watched Linkara's look at Power Rangers Turbo, you'd know that one of his biggest issues is with the two-part episode, "Passing the Torch", in which Tommy, Kat, Adam, and Tanya give up their Turbo Ranger powers to T.J., Cassie, Carlos, and Ashley, who fight alongside Justin. One of the big sticking points Linkara had was that Zordon was recruiting a group of teenagers who hadn't yet proved themselves to combat the forces of evil, teenagers who had a list of other priorities in their life. A stupid move.

I disagree on that last part. I understand where Linkara's coming from, but I disagree.

First off, look at who the second set of Turbo Rangers are supposed to be up against: Divatox. Bloomin' Divatox. Linkara calls her "Rita Lite", but I think even that's being too kind, especially up to the point where the new Turbo Rangers came in. Even Rita Repulsa in her early days had a few good plans running; the Green Ranger eventually turned against her, but before that he beat the Rangers like they stole something from him and never returned it. What did Divatox have up to that point? A submarine, a bunch of mooks that only ever succeeded in making the Putty Patrollers look menacing, and a couple of generals, one of whom couldn't even take an unmorphed twelve-year old in a straight fight. If there was ever a villain you would want a group of brand new Power Rangers to whet themselves up against, it's Divatox. She's the villain equivalent of a training level.

On top of that, the old Turbo Rangers were becoming adults. Yes, teenagers *do* have some responsibilities and problems, but nothing compared to adulthood, which means real responsibilities such as getting a job and paying bills. These are things a teenager lacks, which makes them ideal Power Rangers. If there's a monster attack, they don't have to make up some random excuse and risk their jobs to step out. It's possible for them to go into space and leave their seemingly nonexistent parents behind. Teenagers makes sense. Not terribly much sense, I'll grant you, but we all get the logic. And honestly, they're no worse than the Mighty Morphin' Rangers were when they were first chosen by Zordon. Hell, Billy couldn't even fight for shit back then, and they still picked him up.

So in the end, the new Turbo Rangers did ultimately turn out to be pretty good picks. I'm just saying.

Yes I am rgith.

As a matter of fact, low ratings from Turbo did not almost kill Power Rangers for good. While ratings in Turbo's first half were at an all time low because the franchise was in a "going through the motions" period, this was from a two-year ratings decline that had plagued Power Rangers since the third season of Mighty Morphin'.

In fact, after Turbo was retooled during the second half with a change in cast, the show actually saw an improvement in ratings for the first time since the decline began two years earlier.
