Description Ok, sorry guys, the only wall of text I have for this piece is in Russian and I'm too tired to translate.

At first glance the life and title of a king may seem rather glamorous to some. To be in control of the masses that a king can, to have so many resources at your command to perform virtually whatever whim that you wish and not to mention to live in a castle; the very icon of opulence itself away from the many common stances of life that you so were so fortunate to born away from. While one would think that this would be the life that all would wish to live and seek out to do so, there is unfortunately a very dark and dangerous shadow beneath the glowing sun that is being a matriarch. One thing you must remember is that you will never have as much control as you think. There will always be those harboring in the dark hoping to conspire against you and hope to claim your power as their own. Decisions you assume are your own will soon appear as building blocks to your demise. However, as one would assume, there are many others aside from your advisers who would also love to obtain the very power that you currently command...by any means necessary. These individuals could take on many forms: a stranger on the street who looks on just a bit too much, a servant of the royal family who seems to remain too close to you, perhaps even a friend that wants to know more about you than you wish them too. All of these enemies can step forth and try to take away what's yours. Eventually, and whether you want to or not, these enemies will have to be confronted and challenged. However, once the challenge has passed, whatever it may be, only one of your will be wearing the crown and continue leading this country...forever scarred from the decisions that a king must make in order to keep their land, and themselves safe. Crown and the puppeteers, created by *Larbesta, presents the viewer with such a sight as a king sits before a slain enemy who was once an ally, and solemnly documents the events that have transpired.

To start this, I have to say I am rather impressed by the compositional detailing in the environment as well as the characters. There is a slight sharpness to everything in this piece, which gives everything a stronger appearance as if to reflect the general tone of the situation. The atmosphere is tense and holds strong over this picture as if you are in a room that is preparing to pass judgment over an infraction or murder that was committed and all you can do is simply look on as these events build suspensefully upon itself. Watching as the king signs documents with the ominous silhouettes of his council behind his throne with the slain body of an ally before him, one who presumably challenged his throne gives the piece a very dark and tragic feeling which really resonates toward the viewer of the piece and grants them something they can truly immerse themselves within as if to truly be a part of this piece of art and feel the emotion for themselves.

As with the many things that make this piece work so well for itself, there are a few things that could use some improvement on. One issue I have is the outline on the dead body as well as its positioning in the piece. Is he laying on the floor or is against the table that the king is writing on. He almost appears flat as if he were drawn on another layer of the piece at a later time. Try to see if your can redraw this character to better fit within the environment and if not, alter his glowing outline as it appears a bit out of place. Although the sharper outline of the environment works in some places, I feel it should be toned down a bit in places that are incorporating lighting. For instance the king's attire that reflects sunlight should have the golden parts with a lighter outline that adds to and enhances the glowing ability rather than simply appearing on top of the design itself. One more suggestion would be to work on the texturing of the environmental elements of the piece itself and make it appear more realistic in its materials and construction, thereby giving the piece that much more of your artistic personality. Just experiment with this piece and see what possibilities arise for it.

The life of a king is filled by both pleasure and pain. The joys of your luxuriant life and title, while at the same time avoiding the risks of betrayal and disbandment of those that you once called allies. Soon the king could be driven into a solitary and lonely existence with only his advisers pushing him through his duties like winding up a toy to make it move further and further. Crown and the puppeteers does an excellent job simulating such feelings and fears of a king and immortalizes them in a piece such as this, never failing to grab the attention of the viewer for one moment and drawing them into this dark world of distrust and betrayal. Great work *Larbesta and here's to many more pieces such as this one! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c… " width="20" height="20" alt="" title="Clap"/>
