I 100% agree with you. 
I just watched the movie a moment ago because of the same reasons as you. His design made me curious in the first place. And while watching the movie, in replayed his parts over and over again to listen too his voice and study every single movement Thrax makes. And his outstanding facial expressions not to mention. It was really fascinating. (I'm such a art junky...XD)
Got a little disappointed though at the final fighting scene. They didn't kept his character just as strong in the rest of the movie. A pity.
But I really like your pic.
