Small we may be indeed, but that does not mean insignificant.
Here's the thing: A star might be huge, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not an especially complex thing; it's really just a big pile of hydrogen slowly collapsing under it's own weight. Planets are an order of magnitude more complex with much more internal separation, and single-celled organisms an order of magnitude more complex still. As the entropy in a system increases, so too does the complexity increase.
In fact, as far as we know, the most complex object in the universe is the human brain. Our very thoughts are a gift from the heavens.
