Description Another character portrait - Amity Tressida, with what is going to be her signature flower, sunflowers. I don't know about you, but I find that there is something so enduringly cheerful about sunflowers, which is why I picked them for Amity. She's one of my sunniest and most cheerful characters so it seemed appropriate. It was fun to design a medievial inspired dress for once - I saw the print in a medieval clothing book and knew I had to try it out on an outfit.

So cool! I love the way you worked the flower into the cloth of the dress!

*whistles* Wow. That is some darned impressive marker work. Nice job making it all bright and shiny. Bold and vivid is easy--light and shiny is hard...

Thanks very much - this probably works better than some of my other marker pieces, perhaps because of the restricted colour work. Thank you kindly for the !

Thaaank you! Yep - all the colour scheme was inspired by sunflowers and autumn (despite the fact we're in spring!).

Just as an FYI, sunflowers are a new-world plant. Dunno if that would make a difference for your use.

Yay! Amity, I love her, she is one of my favorites of your characters. She's so adorable The flower you chose for her is perfect, since they both are so sunny and cheery. Love the way you let Amity's hands and the sunflowers, poke out of the border, it help gives that a more welcoming feel, and sort of leads the eye through the picture. So beautiful, love it.

Amity freckles are the best. I love character with freckles, wish there were more of them.

Thank you! I was overjoyed when I thought of the sunflower for Amity because I knew it was the perfect one for her (some of the other flowers I've chosen for characters in the past are less than perfect matches). And I love freckles too.

Thanks for the !

Nice to see Amity making a comeback!
Sunflowers are very cheery - and it's nice that Amity's dress matches. Love her diadem too (or whatever you call it!)

Headband, diadem - whatever, really^ The sunflowery print was inspired by some of the patterns in that Dover medieval clothing PDF.

I thought you'd do something medieval-inspired sooner or later after seeing that book!

Nice details and I like the colours you've used. I always find green and purple used together are very aesthetically pleasing

Green and purple are my favourite colour combination - they harmonise and yet there's a clash that makes them interesting, too.

I know. For that reason I always find myself leaning towards them when I colour.

I really love your "frames". They're well thought out and exacuted! The sleeves caught me off guard, though. At first I couldn't quite tell if they were her skin or not.

Larissa-Bright In reply to whisperinghearts [2009-03-13 20:02:14 +0000 UTC]

I can only take so much of frames; luckily I've had a bit of a break from them so I can be enthusiastic again. The sleeves do look fairly fleshy - my scanner, I'm afraid.

whisperinghearts In reply to Larissa-Bright [2009-03-17 15:57:03 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, the dreaded scanner. You know, some artist who actually has to deal with the crapiness of the scanner should really invent one specifically designed for scanning artwork. They'd be RICH.

Larissa-Bright In reply to whisperinghearts [2009-03-18 10:15:30 +0000 UTC]

You're right there. To be fair, I have come across more expensive scanners that scan things much better, but your ordinary printer-scanner-combi ones are no use.

whisperinghearts In reply to Larissa-Bright [2009-03-19 00:09:29 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that's true. But what artist can afford one of those fancy ones? Aye, there's the rub.

aaaah amity...long time no see
I think the sunflowers go perfect with her! I love sunflowers, but I never know where to plant them , because they grow so big, so you want them in the back, but they need a lot of sun so you should put them somewhere up front
I like seeing them though, in big wide fields! they always cheer me up

Larissa-Bright In reply to Merenwen-luinwee [2009-03-13 20:02:59 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure on where you should put sunflowers either - I think they're such cheerful growing flowers that it doesn't matter so much, as long as they can sunbathe. XD
