Description Ok, so this is the FIRST realism I've ever done on photoshop.... aaand I think it turned out pretty well

Obviously it's not perfect, but it's a damn sight better than I was expecting! I'm so happy with the eyes though, they're my favourite part!! Plus it's so relaxing to layer fur .

I'm not asking for critique, because, yes I did try hard, but I still did it in one day, and I know some of the anatomy's off, buuut I kinda like it. Although I am asking for any tips on photoshop painting anyone has to offer, especially on brushes etc.

Anywho, this is my entry for the current contest on MP atm, it's for the banner. I know Aurora doesn't have grey bits on her cheeks, but I was trying to make it realistic, and for some reason they just looked nice and blended, I hope Kiyo doesn't mind .

I'm thinking of uploading the banner image, with no text on it, just do you can see the whole artwork

plus don't even ask me why there's a small distorted line at the top, kinda just happened :S

Wow, Larka! I almost didn't recognise your style, I don't think I've ever seen you do Realism before! That is, fantastic! How on earth did you make the fur texture? That is something I struggle with hardcore. Is it multiple lines layered on with different shading, or did you use a specific brush?

This is SO BEAUTIFUL. <3 Can you upload the unmarked version, I'm so gonna use it as my background.

I'm thinking about adding another part to the contest, " Icon " because this is something that reminded me of our herpaderp icon I threw together. XD ANYWAY. This is FANTASTIC Larka! I'm gonna submit this to the group (after I make a Contest Folder, lol oopz).

hehe thanks I'm glad you like it. It's quite complicated, I did the base colours under the sketch, then over the top some quick shading with a soft brush (on top of the sketch layer as well) then I began layering different coloured fur strokes, on an airbrush at a low opacity and low flow setting. The eyes were more complicated, I used a similar way, but then used burn and dodge tools . No real specific brush, just a soft one toggling with bits and bobs, trial and error really

@_@ Oh boy, sounds complicated. I'll just have to futs around in photoshop and figure out a way of doing it, and then practice practice practice. ^^

BTW, I like the gray bits. I might keep them.

it is kind of, well it sounds more complicated than it actually is, it's basically just playing, and playing with brushes, and layering LOTS of layering, I' think I had at least 15. I think I may go back a smooth out those brighter tones with a smudge tool, make them look a bit more mixed in

Hehe they kind of just fitted, and felt right at the time, thus why I just added the slight grey cheek tuft shading

thankyou I'm glad it looks so good . Thankyou I need to join up properly, I did sketch out a unique cat, but it just didn't work, which is why that's next on my list after finishing all of these misfit cubbies, so I promise I will be there . tbh though misfit is struggling with active members also, we only have a few rping, I think had a lot of people running around to stay on the site.

really? I had just assumed activity since there's been so much art and journals lately and the new site. Ah well...I would have maybe came back...I had some mixed feelings because that was my first rp and I made such wonderful friends....and the time I invested in it! but...I honestly know I'm not exactly wanted so I'm happy with trying to cultivate a place that's fun for all felines :3

Yep, the forum's not amazingly active, and I think the new forum is just a change since the brush fire, can be easier than deleting inactive members I suppose .

Oh I see, yea I kinda figured since the brush fire was a whole refreshing the site, it sorta makes sense to just make a new site.
Mmmmm...I'm not really sure if I should say exactly, I mean, I could explain it if you wish but in a note would be better.

Oh that sounds amazing! I'm thinking tomorrow of just selling my soul so to speak and offering free sketches to anyone who joins the group or advertizes it in a journal for us so we can just get some more members and advertizing lol.
