Description I don't know if anyone has seen the trailer, or stills from the final Chris Nolan Batman movie(The Dark Knight Rises) but it looks bad.

I know there are people that talked down to The Dark Knight, but I was excited when I saw Ledger's Joker. When I saw the TDKR's Bane...well, excited isn't a word I'd attach to this...movie?

Here is what I mean...

I am just not feeling it. So I used my brain and drew this strip. That is Damian(Batman's son) as Robin, the TDKR's Bane, and special appearance by the real Bane. This does crack me up, hope it does the same to you.

All art, and story by
Batman, Robin, and the Bane's belong to DC Comics.

Nolan's Bane looks like a Mortal Kombat character.

I will have to agree with you 100% on that.

Hmm, I haven't seen the trailer but I got to agree that the guy looks like being out of some bad horror movie or something.
Good work.

I just hope the next Batman movie is more fun. Not silly, but fun. I don't want to have to think all the time, or deal with bubblegum cinema as well.

I can only agree. It's an comic adaption after all, and trying to be realistic about everything tends to kill the imagination of what could be.

That's why the opening of Tim Burton's Batman is a million times better than any of the Nolan Batman movies. That scene with the drug addict muggers on the roof, and you see Batman silently come down, cape open, then lowers it. Still gives me chills.

It's been since I've seen any Batman movie, aside from the Dark Knight, but
I think I remember. It's the one with Cat Woman and the Pinguin in it, right?

Oh the one I described is the first movie, with the Joker. It's still a great movie. My only problem with Batman Returns, was the penguin, I hated him. Simply overly disgusting, hard to look at.

Well, the penuin is creepy, but that's what he's supposed to be.

While i found the strip kinda funny, i feel that this new bane is pretty good, i mean people said the same stuff about the joker and look how that turned out, in my opinion Nolan's bane fits in well with the gritty realistic world he created in the batman films.i wanna ask you, how would you have done bane, with big green tubes in his head and a silly wrestler mask?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LarryKingUndead In reply to Root-Sec [2011-10-04 14:45:10 +0000 UTC]

Actually yes I would have done the mask and tubes route. Anytime people bring up realistic and comic book movies it just doesn't make sense. We are talking about a franchise that is about a billionaire that dresses up like a giant bat and terrorizes crime, and also fights men who wear sacks on their face and spew out dust, who wear make up and kill people with pencils. It can't be all about story, it needs to be visual as well. Nolan likes to hammer home his themes in story, but forgets to add a element of visual flair. While I will still see TDKR, I just know costume designers and Nolan could have done a better with Bane, and the rest of the characters.

"Actually yes I would have done the mask and tubes route" - Then you should watch Joel Schumacher's 'Batman and Robin'. I think the Bane that Nolan has created feels more right than a guy wearing a wrestling mask, such as the dramatic redesign of the transformers characters in the live action movies. Although, I thought the transformers films were badly written and poorly directed(In terms of character development and plot), but visually the designs of the robots looked great! And they looked completely different to their cartoon counterparts.
But anyways, the comic strip you have done is great! Love your artistic style!

Here is the thing, anybody with any creativity can make the something from nothing this weak "realistic" angle is getting old. I saw "Batman and Robin" when it came out. It was a bad movie, Bane's character may have been dumb, but the costume was quite good(the spikes where too much). This is what turned me around and made me think a movie version would be great [link]

But thanks for stopping by.

well i do accept your opinion, but in truth you are a small minority, because Nolan's batman movies are the most successful superhero films of all time and are the most popular batman films too.
To me they DO have visual flare its just a different take on the designs. and if all the other superhero films have taught us anything it is that sticking too much to the comics designs rarely works. you may not like the new joker / scarecrow or bane but you cant deny that they are VERY popular with not just batman fans but with the general public too.

I am the same way. I like to have fun, to enjoy myself when I go to the movies. But the Nolan Batman movies are trying to be realistic, and in that process they forget there place as entertainment.

LarryKingUndead In reply to Sushimitzu [2011-10-03 14:52:38 +0000 UTC]

Thats fine. Here's a quick history.

Bane was the son of criminal, Bane was innocent but his father commited a crime so the Central American country that they lived in tried to go after Bane's father, but the father fled, leaving his son. The son was sent to prison to serve his fathers sentence. Bane read, and learned how to fight in prison, he bettered himself. He was forced into a experiment that would possibly kill him. The experiment flooded his body with a drug called "venom" that would allow the person get bigger, and stronger. Bane broke out, with the venom, and used his talents to strike out in the world. He set his sights on Batman to break him, mentally, and physically, which he did, by snapping Batman's back.

Which country sends the son to prison for the father's crimes these days? And why would he fight Batman anyway?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LarryKingUndead In reply to Sushimitzu [2011-10-03 15:08:03 +0000 UTC]

Well it was a fictional comic book Central American country modeled after Columbia and it's problems with drug kingpins.

Bane was haunted by dreams of a Bat since he was a kid, and heard stories of Gotham, and this Bat that rules with fear. Bane thinks this dream of a bat, and the Batman are fate telling him to confront his fears.

Yeah, the writer of the comics that introduced him was going for something grand. But really, Bane is a character who was wrongly imprisoned, and in some cases a innocent. I really like the character, and the mask he wears is creepy.

I have to say I didn't care that much for Ledger's Joker (although I loved Two Face from the same film) but I agree with your assessment about Bane. He looks like he crawled out of some generic Sci-Fi movie.

I'm guessing Bane is about to reinact the scene from "Knightfall" in your strip.

LarryKingUndead In reply to cluedog [2011-10-02 23:22:10 +0000 UTC]

Well I do think that his look does say a lot, and what it says I don't really care for. He does look like a mix of The Road Warrior, like he should have some assless chaps or something.

Your guess would be right, SNAP, crackle, and pop, to Mr. Hardy's spinal column.

I do like the original designs too, but it would never work in the batman films and would look completely ridiculous on film. The new bane looks like some sort of bad ass army general, which makes sense since he practically has his own private army. the mask also makes sense as it appears to be a type of gas mask that allows the venom to be inhaled instead of injected, you may not like the design but the look has been carefully thought over to show what kind of character Bane is. Plus i wouldn't call Tom Hardy a "pale brit", more of a "british tank" as he,s pretty big in this film.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ebilrubberducki In reply to Root-Sec [2011-11-06 20:49:59 +0000 UTC]

now is he going to be big thanks to special effects or camera trickery hmm? after all if you want to make bane grittyer, i say get a big 7ft tall guy maybe give him a bit of muscle and a more iconic mask than one from hanibal lector and see where it lands him. And anyway it doesn't matter if the guys british as long as he sounds sort of like an american people will belive the guys american, after all look at christian bale he's welsh but sounds like some kind of chain smoking american dude in half of the films he's been in

Root-Sec In reply to ebilrubberducki [2011-11-06 21:06:07 +0000 UTC]

First Banes not American.
second yer they will be using camera angles and visual effect to make him look taller about 6,5 ish.
The wrestler mask probably wouldn't work because it would look pretty weird and would be difficult to explain.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ebilrubberducki In reply to Root-Sec [2011-11-06 22:34:51 +0000 UTC]

dude do you realise this is based on a comic book about a rich playboy that likes to dress up like every night is halloween and go beat up poor thugs for 'the good of the city', whilst having deranged physcoiopathic crimanals escape from the one and only mental home in the whole of gotham? .... it kind of puts bane using a wrestlers mask in the 'closest to sane' catagorey, after all at least he used his bane and thought, 'maybe if i covered my whole face no one would recogonise me real identity?' besides the mask wouldn't have to be a wrestlers it could just be a bit more original instead of looking like something that hannibal lector wears with his sunday best.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Root-Sec In reply to ebilrubberducki [2011-11-06 22:41:15 +0000 UTC]

so then give him a black criminal mask? perhaps you could explain the mask, but not the tubes sticking into his back and head, now if you think that would work in a Nolan film then you obviously dont know much about them.
Main thing is the the mask is unique, designed with practicality in mind and what the character is meant to be like. and it looks a hell of a lot more intimidating that a wrestler mask or some other boring black mask.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ebilrubberducki In reply to Root-Sec [2011-11-06 23:22:32 +0000 UTC]

did i say anything about a 'black criminal mask'? .. nope. sir i belive you to be an asshole with no listening skills, i said a more 'orginal' mask as in do more than just the basics dumbass, plus those tubes sticking in him? a visual reminder for people that this guy needs takes the venom, and that he's just not some wheezing asthmatic dude that does evil shit, and besides the fact that in the comics bane was BIG muscle AND brain gives him an intmidating edge, plus he actually mangaged to succeded where other batman villains failed, and that was to cripple the bat.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Root-Sec In reply to ebilrubberducki [2011-11-06 23:28:00 +0000 UTC]

...firstly DONT call me an asshole. i was simply making a point by saying that a black criminal mask would be the only way to do a full face mask without it looking odd.
I know about Bane and i know his actions give him an intimidating feeling, BUT for those who dont know anything about bane there would have to be a more visual intimidating factor. and i just dont think a mask like the original would do it. and the tubes would make it too unrealistic. And perhaps the biggest reason why they wouldnt have bane wearing a full face mask is because you cannot see the actor's emotions and facial expressions. plus it would be unfair for any actor to get cast a role only to have their face covered by a mask. At least in the new one you can see his eyes.

.....errrm the mouth is covered in the movie because the venom is designed to be inhaled like a gas mask. is it that you think that the comic book bane could work in The Dark Knight Rises?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LarryKingUndead In reply to Root-Sec [2011-11-06 23:59:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it should. This is a movie about Batman fighting the League of Assassins in broad daylight alongside the GCPD, and stopping "Bane", Talia, and the League of Assassins from releasing a doomsday weapon as Batman flies around in a "Hunter Killer" aka The Bat-Wing.

Either way, this trilogy isn't Batman. Batman doesn't look for a way out of being the defender of Gotham, he will never stop as long as there is crime. He doesn't trust another to fight his War on Crime, I will patiently await a new, better Batman movie from someone that gets the core trait that makes Batman who he is. Which isn't a shirker of responsibility.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Root-Sec In reply to LarryKingUndead [2011-11-07 00:04:20 +0000 UTC]

....wow u are the first person who doesn't like the Nolan films.
Fistly Talia has never been confirmed so i dont think she is in it.
The reason Batman is trying to find a way that he dosent have to be batman is because he wants to inspire ordinary people to protect gotham not for him to do it for them.
Its all part of a very well written story that makes the nolan movies more than just an average superhero movie. That is also one reason for the movies great success which you cannot deny.
So i think Nolan has got it pretty right with how to do a batman movie.
