These are the Eldrazi, faceless beings of immense power that move from plane to plane, consuming mana and destroying worlds.

Not particularly. I think the original set featuring them came out three or four years ago.
But the new set with them is coming out in a few weeks.

They are from the MagicΒ franchiseΒ (MTG; a trading card game) Β Β
This is Magic's take on Cthulhu-like creatures, but with more of an action/adventure vibe, and slightly less of the creepy psychological horror vibe.
Magic releases new expansions every few months, and the expansion coming out this October features Eldrazi as the antagonist.
Eldrazi were first revealed a few years ago, with a previous expansion, but there were fewer of them, and they were a little less hyped. Β
Since then, they've kind of built up a little notoriety as epic badguys, so there's more excitement this time around.
So, yes, they're new... kinda. Β The cards are now revealed, so the artists are posting their awesomeness.
