Description October 2006

Character: Rose Tyler (Dr Who season 2, episode 7, The Idiot's Lantern)
Materials:
Dress - candy pink charmeuse
Jacket - denim with iron on flower

As soon as Rose stepped out of the TARDIS, and I saw those gorgeous shoes, I knew I would love this costume. The episode is set in 50's London, and Rose's costume is divine!! This was worn for the Friday night of Sydney Supanova, October 2006. My friend wore his 10th Dr outfit with me

The dress is made from pink charmeuse. I wanted to make it out of delustered satin, but at $20m there was no way I could afford it. I have since found a really nice matt satin for only $9.95 in the perfect colour, but I really don't want to have to remake a costume I might only wear once or twice more.

The jacket was picked up from an op-shop and whilst not the correct fabric, it's such a good match! It has the perfect collar, and was already a cropped length. All I had to do was shorten the sleeves, resew the cuffs, and then using the offcuts, sew on the pockets. I then ironed on a pink flower.

The outfit is completed with handmade earrings, pink headband, fishnet stockings and pink kitten heels. And the bouffant do

this is great I want to make one too, but I don't know how. What pattern did you use to make the dress? How did you make it?

That's an incredible outfit! It looks really cute and I just love that skirt. There's something about 50's clothing that reminds of poodle skirts, drive-ins, and Grease. Great job by the way!

Thanks so much! The original was used in a Dr Who episode set in the 50's. I knew I HAD to make it as soon as I saw it!

Thank you! I do actually - [link]

I'm hoping to actually remake this dress out of a closer matching fabric (it's too big for me now), as my friend's friend is the spitting image of David Tennant! I want photos with him!

I love Doctor Who and I love 50's clothing (I have made those two things well obvious, as some might know) and I so wish I could get clothes like that. That is just fabulous.

I'm glad you like it!! As soon as I saw the first shot of her shoes, I knew I was going to love the costume! I'm such a fan of 50's clothing! But I had so many other costumes on my list, I never thought I'd get around to making it so quickly. But my friend was doing a Dr Who costume, so I figured I'd go along with it!

I actually did a photoshoot with this costume not too long ago, I'm just about to submit a couple of pics from it! Unfortunately the dress doesn't fit my anymore, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to sell it I'm contemplating making a new one, but I really need the money for other costumes. But hopefully it will find a new loving home!

Oh and 50's clothing is really easy to make!! Full circle skirts are a snap! I should write up a tutorial actually....That's how I made the skirt for this dress!

didn't she wear a blue jean jacket?

Nope. Actually her jacket was more of a puffy parka type thing - it was made from 'parachute' fabric I think is the best way to describe it. I knew I was going to have a devil of a time finding a parka int he right colour, and with the right features. So When I stumbled across this jacket, it had the perfect look to it, it's just not the right fabric.
