From the planet Tamaran, Kelynba'l was one of the elite guards for Princess Koriand'r (now known as the Titan Starfire) until the day where Starfire's sister Komand'r (Blackfire) took over the throne and forced her sister into enslavement. Star was appalled, and not just because she swore an oath to protect her princess no matter the cost. Charging Komand'r, she tried to fight the corrupt Blackfire, but was overpowered.

The new Queen Komand'r sentenced her not to enslavement, but to exile. Kelynba'l was stripped and sealed in a crystal, then shot off into space, where she sailed through the deep black. Many years later, her crystal prison crash-landed onto Earth, impacting near the Temple Azarath, where she was found by the sisters Anastasia Winchester, aka Night Crow (as played by my alt latexbing.deviantart.com/art/N… and Anabelle Winchester, aka White Swan (as played by IvonneA ivonnea.deviantart.com/) . They found the girl inside naked and unconscious, but breathing. The two of them took her to the temple, and Anabelle, using her light powers, woke her up and healed any injuries she may have sustained from the impact. Kelynba'l woke up and started talking in a language that the sisters didn’t understand. Realizing this, she grabbed one of them (Anastasia) and gave her a kiss on the mouth then started speaking English. (Like all Tamaraneans, she can assimilate other languages through physical contact. It doesn't need to be kissing, but that's more fun.) Kelynba'l told them about what happened and that she had to get back to Tamaran to free Princess Koriand'r. Anastasia remembering hearing that name before, explained that Princess Koriand'r was free and living in Titan Tower and is now known as Starfire. After hearing that, Kelynba'l grabbed some clothing and took off, not even saying goodbye.

Once she arrived at Titan Tower and found Princess Koriand'r, she apologized for not being able to protect her, and pledged to do so from then on. Starfire said that Tamaran is free now, and that she had given up her title, so Shooting Star's oath was null and void. The Titans offered to take her in and train her, and she accepted. She took to the training well, swords and knives as well as hand to hand, but after her training Starfire said to Kelynba'l she needs a new name if she is going to be a heroine. Thinking about it and remembering what the sisters said about her crashing onto the planet in a shooting star, she decided to take up that name. When she did so, she realized she had to return to the Temple Azarath and thank the sisters for their help.
When she arrived at the temple, one of the monks said that the sisters had left for the city of Hayao. Thanking the monk for his help, she took off to find them and thank them for their help, and to offer her help in whatever way she could.
