We continue.  Asclepus is not exactly playing fair here.  He knows that Vigil is a woman who has crossed worlds, realities, universes.  Space is a meaningless concept for one who travels as far as she, and to be bound, trapped in a dingy, cold, dark cell alone with her powers dampened, it's not an easy thing for her to face.  Worst of all, he's not the sort who lies about his intentions, or his offers.  The most nefarious 'deals with the devil' you ever face are the ones where the devil is completely above board with you.  They tell you exactly what is going on, and they offer you something you really, really want.

Offer a starving person a loaf of bread, and their tune may change...

But not today.

Now I'm infinitely curious as to what favor A-pus' (that's what I'll call him now, for convenience. ) master has in mind... All in due time, I guess.

This one I'll spoil, just in case we have trouble conveying it properly.  It's not complicated after all.  She opens gates between reality?  He wants her to open a few on command and keep a couple open on command.  While he is constrained not to ask her to directly bring his master into being awake in this world, she can bring more agents in, which aids the plan.

As with most of his temptations, Asclepus doesn't feel he needs her.  He simply wants her, for whatever reason.  He's far far too patient to feel like he actually needs her.  He's been doing this, as humans perceive it, since we were grunting over our first wheels.

Appreciate the small spoilers. Will we succeed in breaking Vigil? I hope not. I may not like Vigil's actions as of lately (in a moral sense, not a storytelling sense), but I'm hoping she still has enough integrity to meet her fate with her head held high. But we'll just have to wait and see.

All these otherworldly (pun not intended) invasions by eldritch and vaguely defined forces as of late... Not doing wonders for the fabric of reality. Better call the repairman.

We shall see... we shall see...  And yes, reality is fraying.  Between Cross, Asclepus and a few others, it's been a bit ... endangered.

Vigil doesn't seem to have a lot of options

Two very unpleasant options:  Accept his offer, or die slowly and horribly.

It wasn't a happy story.

Nice page. I love the body language in the first panel, and the contrast between the claustrophobic blackness of the cell with that middle panel - having her figure so small against the wide open background works really nicely.

Vigil knows what Asclepus represents and refuses his offer - but will she buckle before the end? Good assessment in the comments - the danger here is that he's being honest!

Precisely.  It says a great many things about the four who I have that serve him that they did indeed cave (and in fact, all four were quite willing and happy to serve, or at least 3 were.  One has had, and still has reservations about his bargain.)

Who are those four? John Doe... Asclepus... who else?

John Doe - Clearly has some reservations over his deals with Asclepus.
The Imp - Has never had reservations about anything.
Judas - Technically despises Asclepus, but he made his deal quite intentionally.  The power of hell to fight hell, in his mind.
Playtime - Oh god, she loves her deal.  That book is just so much fun for her twisted, psychotic mind.

Those four are all 'transformed' by Asclepus in some way as his servants, though Playtime is not fully aware of this yet.
