Description
The plant (Abrus precatorius) that produces these red and black pretty beans has spread almost throughout the tropics (here: Mahe, Seychelles). They are popularly used for jewelry production.
But beware.
Even if the dry (undamaged) seeds are harmless, they contain the toxic substance abrin, which is not inferior to the better-known ricin. Already 0.1 mg is enough to kill a 70 kg (approx. 150 lb) person!
