My sister's first novel, The Eleventh Trade , has been published!Baba is the grandfather of the main character, Sami. Here he is seen with the iconic instrument in the story, the rebab. I've done a number of portraits of the main characters that I'll be posting here. This one might be my favorite, I like how classical and Rembrandt-esque it turned out.

I really love how this particular portrait turned out because of the level of detail you put into it, from the veined and calloused fingers to the moles and creases on his face! I also like that nice contrast between his curly beard and the angular folds in his turban.

Hmm, maybe 10 hours total? I took a break from it for a week or two, but that's the typical time for portraits like this.

Another reason why I was glad for my figure drawing classes. It's drawing figures that are considered "less than ideal." Old, young, fat, skinny, NOT supermodels XD
