Description EDIT: Just did a little editing, nothing too major. Sorry it ended up in everyones' message box again

Wow it's been over a year since my last Prismacolor pencil drawing. The reason why I did pencils was because the markers were way too bulky to take to North Carolina this time around, so I settled on my pencil sets, which turned out to be a good idea because I actually not only used them, but I think pencils suited this picture more than marker or digital coloration. I want to give a special thanks to *AnnouncerGuy for entertaining me during the first 5 hours of its coloration, and a *grumble* thanks to my mother for posing for me (after giving me a hard time) so I could get the shoulders right. I like my wrinkles in this pic. Some of this pic was done in the car when driving on windy (as in to wind around something, NOT breezy) mountain roads while I was suffering terrible car sickness lol.

My second time drawing Luffy. I kinda like how I draw him. The scan of this doesn't do the real picture justice. The real version is huge and beautiful and colorful, and it's far more impressive than the wimpy little scan. I look forward to hanging this in my apartment <3

EDIT: Sometime in the future, within the next few weeks, I MAY update this picture with a newer version from a better scanner, because currently I'm using my father's fax/copier/scanner combination, and it really does NOT do my drawing justice.

Haha, Luffy's face is pretty easy. It's his body that gets to me. It's really hard for me to draw skinny guys, because then I think they look too tall, so I shorten them up to be proportional, and then they look like kids, so I shrik their head and wham, you get the same problem all over again, with them looking too "normal" to be skinny, and the only thing that's changed is the resolution size lolol

Yes! This is what I like to see... You're great with pencils! Very good coloring, especially in the sky and how the strokes are going in the same direction. The wrinkles are fabulous. (Heehee... love the birds, too!) Also, I hate to repeat this, but I gotta agree with Gena on the sky's flatness. Don't get me wrong- it still looks awesome, girl. You get better and better every time!
(Haha, and yeah, gotta thank mom 'cause those shoulders look great!)

haha, I'm glad your mom decided to pose for you, because his pose looks awesome I really like the wood's shadows and such of the ship too my only gripe would be that the background... I dunno... seems sort of 'flat' to me... I can't point my finger on it to why :\ Maybe it's the clouds...*sigh* I dunno ~__~ no wait... I think I do... I think it's because the horizon line that connects the sea to the sky is kind of flat... Usually as the sea goes further and further away, it gradually gets darker, but here, you're doing the opposite, eventhuough the sun really hasn't set, yet? rofl, gotdammit, I don't know... But it has *something* to do with that goshdarn water!

sorry, I tried.

(the foreground in its entirely and the sky's colors look really pretty together though )

I think it might be the wood, too... the wood holding the railing up... it's just incredibly flat. I tried to round it out a bit by making it darker, to imply more shade, but I had so many layers of pencil on it, it wouldn't hold any more color! all the wax, or whatever the stuff is, from the pencils ended up rejecting future color! I'm really not a pro at pencils. I'm happy as it is that I managed to pull at least a half-decent piece out from them

yeah, you're right, white woulda helped a lot if ya had it... :\

I tried to find you a coupla quick references to how the sky/sea looks when the sun's...*sorta* kinda almost setting (to where, it at least *begins* changing colors)

(Okay, so it's *more* than a 'couple', but you get my drift XD
...Get it? Drift? sailboat? the sea? XDD rofl, sorry, that was randomly corny)

Anyway, yeah, since ya can't change it now, it's just some refrences to think about for next timers~ The darkness of the wooden rail wouldn't bother me if it was just the foreground only, since it doesn't conflict with the bg...but...whatevers, I guess lol

Well, as I said before, Luffy's expression is fieeeenne! That was also a pretty neat detail having the one bird darker since it's in front of the sun. I also like how you change your coloring style based on the subject: the sea is deep and smooth while the wooden railing is rough and stroke....ular? Haha, your mother posing for this.... Thanks for this sunny piece of joy in my day even though I didn't get to go along and register my art today at the con.

The colouring is very bright for your doing! I happen to really like the highlights on his shoulders (those rock, to be frank). Gosh, and I know everything about those combo-scanner monsters that eat your perfectly fine drawings.

I used to be really scared of color too... I've always had a really big phobia about using unnatural colors... and I'm beginning to get over it, though it still is a challenge to me.
