This is powerful, it definitely gets across the feeling of the mother being the backbone
but also being obscured by the role she has.

Those roles we play as women. They change, but then they also stay the same. It's a subject that fascinates me....

Was this Kwik-Krak, or some mystic recipe you cooked up?

I never did find Kwik-Krak stateside. The stuff I used here worked really well because it comes in a bottle with a long, pointy tip so it's easy to feather out where you want it. It's called "Crackle Medium" and is part of the Tim Holz line. Comes in a 2-oz bottle with a pink pattern. Do you have Tim Holz in S.Africa?

still digging the transparent effects you apply to your work. . .i love the way the text editorializes the prominent figure of the woman

this is extremely interesting... it draws you in immediately, and the eggs not only look to the future of the family, but for some reason remind me of fossilized eggs, too, looking back into the past (the matrilineal heritage of the family, perhaps). great work!

I think I invented it. At various times, all of us step into the role of "backbone," I believe.

The backbones are hidden... while others get to show their faces. Or maybe the face in the egg is an unhatched future self of the backbone. Food for thought here.

The great thing about art is that we get to express what we feel about our lives.
