This is powerful, it definitely gets across the feeling of the mother being the backbone
but also being obscured by the role she has.

Those roles we play as women. They change, but then they also stay the same. It's a subject that fascinates me....

Was this Kwik-Krak, or some mystic recipe you cooked up?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LauraTringaliHolmes In reply to hogret [2011-02-12 01:42:36 +0000 UTC]

I never did find Kwik-Krak stateside. The stuff I used here worked really well because it comes in a bottle with a long, pointy tip so it's easy to feather out where you want it. It's called "Crackle Medium" and is part of the Tim Holz line. Comes in a 2-oz bottle with a pink pattern. Do you have Tim Holz in S.Africa?

I usually have to order the Tim Holz stuff online ... I'll look out for the crackling ...

We carry inside embryonic roots - we can't choose them - they are the traces of the past (in)to present...

That's the image tell me .

Yes, I agree. This piece is past, present, and future to me, too. Glad you see it this way. Makes me feel good.

still digging the transparent effects you apply to your work. . .i love the way the text editorializes the prominent figure of the woman

a true mystery that Easter is coming so early this year
and i also like the idea of placing the encyclopedia - text like a comic-book thought bubble over the head ...

Easter is early? Oh, my! I will alert our household bunny! I have been out of touch with my calendar of late!

No, I am not sure, just judging from the Easter eggs in you piece

this is extremely interesting... it draws you in immediately, and the eggs not only look to the future of the family, but for some reason remind me of fossilized eggs, too, looking back into the past (the matrilineal heritage of the family, perhaps). great work!

LauraTringaliHolmes In reply to TornStitches [2011-02-06 17:36:01 +0000 UTC]

Glad you enjoyed this one. I was pleased with the fossilized (what I had been calling "reptilian") effect. The future, and the past. Yes.

such a strong symbolism in this one. and her face covered with the words..
backbone of the family, is that a real expression or did you invent it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LauraTringaliHolmes In reply to partiallyHere [2011-02-05 01:29:27 +0000 UTC]

I think I invented it. At various times, all of us step into the role of "backbone," I believe.

The backbones are hidden... while others get to show their faces. Or maybe the face in the egg is an unhatched future self of the backbone. Food for thought here.
